"The look on your face." He takes my chin between his finger and thumb. "You're easy to read, sweetheart."
I bristle. "I'm not."
He gives me a lopsided grin. "It's a good thing."
We reach the dance floor, and he pulls me against him and whispers in my ear, "Underneath all that tight control is a passionate woman dying to let loose."
He puts his hands on my hips, and we sway to the slow song.
"Let me guess. You're a recent college grad with a good job offer and graduated top of your class."
"No."
"Yes."
"Fine, you're right."
He pulls me closer to him. The swell of my breasts presses against his muscular chest. I can feel his warmth through the thin fabric of my dress.
"It killed you to say that."
"What?"
"That I was right."
I can't help but smile. "Maybe a little bit," I admit.
We lock eyes, and his gaze drifts from my breasts to my mouth. Warmth explodes in my belly, and I want him to do more than look. He's tall, sexy as sin, and has the body of a Greek god. I feel his need for me swell against my stomach.
I rock my hips against him, and he tightens his grip on me. I clasp my hands behind his neck and thread the hair at the base of his neck through my fingers.
Touching Evan felt like heaven on earth, and for once, I felt like being naughty.
The song ends.
"I have a place not too far from here," he whispers into my ear, the heat of his breath sending shivers down my spine.
I bite my lip. Yes, I want him, but he isn't the guy for me. I want commitment, passion, and love. I compromised with Brendan, and I'm not about to make the same mistake again.
"No, thanks." With great effort, I step away from him. "Thanks for the drinks."
I walk away before he can say something that will change my mind. After a few minutes, I find Shae.
"What happened with the Adonis?"
I roll my eyes. "Evan and I danced, and he asked me to his place."
"Girl, please tell me you didn't say no."
"He's not the one for me. I want something real. Not a one-night stand."
"You can have fun while you search for the guy you want."
"That's not me. I'm a relationship type of girl, and he definitely is not a relationship type of guy."
She places her arm around me. "Maybe you’ll meet someone when you go on vacation."
I shrug. "Maybe. Martha's Vineyard attracts all kinds of people." I smile at Shae and pull her toward the dance floor. "Let's forget about all that and have some fun."
