“I’ve told her you and Eoin will be paying a visit.”

“Ah, well there’s been a slight change of plan.”

“And that is?”

“Molly will also be tagging along.”

“At your ma’s insistence?”

“Correct.”

“That’s fine with me. But let’s just be clear on one thing. My alter ego won’t be getting involved if she lands herself in any hot water. If your brother has agreed with your ma to bring her along then he can be the one in charge of her safekeeping. Understood?”

“Understood. So, is Jessie looking forward to our visit?”

“You don’t want to know the answer to that question.”

“I appreciate your honesty, Jaine.”

CHAPTERFIFTY-FIVE

JESSIE

Jessie’s Family Home, Colton, Nevada

It's justmy luck Dylan’s stepped in on behalf of Cillian. I mean, what are the chances? Still, it’s been months. I can do this, right? It’s all water under the bridge now.

How hard can it be to stand in front of the man you’re in love with and ask him how he is? Or how he feels about the fact he broke your heart. Or about the fact he misled you and strung you along. Or about the fact he’s about to marry that cliché blonde Disney princess of his. You know, the girl he’s been in love with his entire life, but still went ahead and fucked you regardless.

And do I offer my congratulations, even if the words stick in my throat?

It’s not like I can refuse to attend the meeting. Ty needs me. I can’t abandon him in his hour of need, even though he abandoned me the moment he stole my virginity.

Two men. Both mislead me in their own unique way to get into my panties. I mean, they’re both just as bad as each other.

Still, Ty needs someone on side to help answer questions on his business plan. This affects the alliance, so it’s bigger than him or me.

Or Dylan O’Connell, for that matter.

Ty’s an intelligent man but he’s a biker. And while he’s picking things up quickly, he’s no match for the O’Connell brothers. At least not yet. So I have no option but to attend and be his tag-team mate.

But right now, I’d sooner get lost in the desert, be bitten by a scorpion, and then have my dead bones licked clean by a pack of wild coyotes.

I can’t help Ty if I’m dead, though. Rock and a hard place? Story of my life.

And what do I wear to a business meeting at an MC clubhouse.

I glance at my leathers and my patched Sons jacket, then smile to myself. I know exactly what I’ll wear.

This is a biker town.

And Jessie O’Brien? Well, that girl’s a badass biker chick.

* * *

I answerthe phone to Jaine just as I’m putting on my jacket.

“You about to set off?”
