“What about them?”
“Eoin asked if JAL would be representing them. I said yes and….”
“You did what?” I snap.
“Let me finish. He asked the question. I didn’t want to say no and for him to put Molly forward.”
“Why not?”
“It’s my daddy’s business, Jaine. He’s worked hard to make the club a success and she has zero experience when it comes to our MC ways.”
“But Lucifer thinks I’m a bent lawyer.”
“He doesn’t.”
“Those words came out of his mouth. I watched them do so with my own eyes.”
“It was tongue-in-cheek. A joke.”
“It wasn’t funny from where I was sitting.”
“Please will you represent the Sons?”
I sigh. I can’t really say no to her. It’s not her fault her daddy’s an asshole.
“A three-month trial period once he’s out of contract with his current legal representation. And I’ll need that confirming in writing. If he pisses me off one more time, then we’re done, and it will never be revisited. Agreed?”
“Agreed. And thank you. I’ll let my daddy know.”
“I’m doing this for you, not him.”
“I appreciate that, partner.”
* * *
“Eoin.”I call him the moment I come off the phone to Jessie.
“Jaine, how are you?”
“Are you sure you don’t already know the answer to that question? My ears are constantly burning because I seem to be the main topic of conversation at Duster HQ these days. It’s starting to piss me the fuck off.”
“Jessie and that big mouth of hers,” he grumbles under his breath. “We were discussing how well you handled the IRS situation.”
“Well, thank you for the unnecessary recognition for the small part I played and the eight million dollars in petty cash I saved you, but there really was no need. I was merely satisfying an owing that didn’t exist. And what else was said about me?”
“From your tone, I suspect you already know.”
“Too goddamn right I already know. And why would Molly say such a thing? Call my professionalism into question with such blatant, unfounded lies? I suspect a bitter Ma Duster is behind this, filling her head. Am I right?”
There’s a pause. It tells me all I need to know.
“If by your silence you’re trying to suggest you’re in any way unsure then allow me to call bullshit. That aside, even if your ma had made unsavory comments about me to Molly, they should never have been aired. Who else is Molly bad-mouthing me to? The Dusters need to rein her in.”
I’m aware I’m hissing but I’m pissed off.
“She’s Irish. She’s headstrong and opinionated.”
“What’s being Irish got to do with it? I know a lot of Irish people, and The Almighty appears to have bestowed manners on the majority of them. It was uncalled for and rude. She needs to keep her thoughts about me to herself. She doesn’t even know me. She hasn’t even met me.Theyhaven’t even met me, so who are they to judge?”
