“Drive down the road.”
We drive slowly down the road. There aren’t any neighbors outside. No one has even noticed the place is engulfed in flames.
“Why isn’t anyone outside?” he asks, his eyes roaming over the other trailers.
“This isn’t really the type of place that has concerned neighbors,” I say, watching the flames dance around the trailer. The place is completely covered in black smoke and flames. There’s no way she’s survived.
“Let’s go. I think it’s safe to say she’s gone.”
We pull up to my house and he barely has the car in park when I’m over the middle console and in his lap.
“What are you doing?”
“Finishing what you started at the laundromat.” I smirk, pulling my shirt over my head.
“You’re fucking crazy.” He shakes his head, his eyes roaming my body.
“You love it.” I pull his mouth to mine and he groans.
His lips travel down my neck, and when he pulls my nipple into his mouth, my back arches. I lean back against the steering wheel. “Fuck, Maddox.”
A light shines into the car and he pulls away. “What was that?”
“Who fucking cares?” I’m frustrated and horny.
“I do. You should too. Especially after what happened to you.”
I roll my eyes and grab my shirt. “I guess the fun is over.” I crawl off his lap and he opens the car door.
I step out of the car just as someone comes up behind Maddox.
“Maddox!” I cry out, but not in time. I can’t tell who the person is because it’s so dark, but their arm is wrapped around his neck.
I can see a knife shining in the moonlight.
I run over towards them, and I can see Maddox struggling to get away.
“Stay away, Belle.” That voice sounds familiar.
I take step closer, and the knife moves closer to Maddox. “Who are you?”
Maddox jerks to the right and the person holding him is pulled in that direction. There is just enough moonlight shining now that I can see it’s the sheriff.
“What the fuck? What are you doing?”
“I’m trying to get rid of him,” he grunts.
I’m so confused right now. Maddox is new in town, why would the sheriff want to get rid of him?
“Why?”
“Because. I’ve never had a problem watching you before. Now this asshole comes to town, and I can’t watch you anymore.”
“What do you mean, watch me?” I’m trying to distract him, so Maddox can pull away.
“I’ve been watching you since you were fifteen. You’re so beautiful. I knew you’d never let me touch you.”
I realize that I’m going to have to turn the tables here so that Maddox can pull away.
