Emma’s mouth fell open. “Logan, don’t.”

Where had this come from suddenly?

“I need you to know how I feel, Em. I want you. It’s like you feel like you belong to me,” Logan continued, and her heart began to beat double-time.

What was he saying?

“I don’t want another man holding you like this.” He stepped closer, their bodies pressing together. “I don’t even want another woman under my touch.”

Desire and emotions whirled in a mix of confusion through her. Her body said yes; her brain said run.

“You said our baby was unwanted,” Emma reminded him. “I can’t unhear that.”

His head dropped, and he shook his head.

“Em, there are ghosts in my life I haven’t told you about,” Logan said softly, his eyes darting around her face. “Things that destroyed my life for a time. Things I’m not sure I can come back from.”

She swallowed.

“You need to tell me, Logan. If you want me to understand.”

Tears began to slide down her face.

When he just turned and stared out the window, Emma could tell he was struggling to open up, but she had to protect herself.

“I need to understand, Logan. What you said to me last night...I can’t be with you with them hanging between us. No woman wants to hear those words after a man has made love to her.” As soon as she finished speaking, she froze. Shit. “I’m not saying you...”

“What if I did?” Logan said, turning his face back to her. “What if I am fucking falling in love with you?”

Then his mouth came crashing down on hers.

––––––––

LOGAN WAS SO RELIEVEDto have Emma back in his arms as he swept his tongue around hers.

She tasted like cinnamon and honey. Her familiar flavors now felt like home.

Emma was his.

Logan just had to find a way to convince her he was a good bet. Which meant opening up and telling her everything.

He released her mouth, and those big green eyes of hers looked so vulnerable.

“Come.” Logan walked them to the bed, and they sat.

“Tell me everything.” Emma said. “Please.”

Logan sighed and kicked out his legs.

“Zoe and I were together for nearly ten years,” Logan began. “I don’t know when I knew I loved her. It just sort of evolved into love. We moved in together and eventually married.”

Logan took Emma’s hand and played with her tiny, slim fingers.

“One day, she came home and told me she was pregnant.”

Emma gasped.

His eyes lifted to hers, and he shook his head.
