“Awesome! See you tonight then. It’s Latin night at the club, so bring your tango shoes.”

“Sounds fun.”

It didn’t. It sounded scary as hell. Andy had only three dance moves and zero articles of clothing in her closet suitable for a nightclub.

As soon as Kyle strode off, she rounded on Luke in a panic. “I don’t own any tango shoes! I don’t own a dress, or heels, or makeup—”

“Breathe, Bird!”

She sucked in a breath.

Luke expelled one. “What time is your lunch break?”

Chapter twenty-three

Afewhourslater, after leaving the shop in Rashida’s capable hands, Luke took Andy to a popular clothing boutique across the street from Rockabilly’s.

They made a pit stop at the diner first to scarf down lunch — a Rocka Burger with extra jalapeños for him, which earned him a very concerned look from Andy, and a plain cheeseburger and vanilla shake for her. At one point in the meal, Luke tried to steal a sip of her shake, but Andy quickly swiped it away.

“No way,” she hissed, all pissy and cute. “You’ll contaminate it with your hot pepper breath. Next time, don’t order something with enough Scovilles to kill me and maybe I’ll share.”

“Can I have the cherry?”

“No.”

“So mean,” he muttered with a laugh.

Andy picked up the dill pickle garnishing her plate, grimaced, and tossed it onto his. “You can have that.”

He ate the spear in two bites, then lapped up the salty juice trickling down his lip. “Yum.”

She shuddered. “You are so never kissing me with that mouth.”

Luke’s smirk widened into a full-fledged grin. “How ’bout with aminty-freshmouth?”

Instant color rose to her cheeks, and Luke felt a perverse stab of pleasure. Score one for him. After all her taunting reminders that morning about their recent fuckery, she deserved it. Looking away, Andy directed a tiny smile out the window but otherwise didn’t respond to his comment.

They made short work of the rest of their lunch — since Andy kept glancing at her phone and fretting about taking longer than her “allotted half-hour meal break” — then walked across the street to Suni’s.

Luke had never been inside the trendy apparel store before, but he instantly recognized one of the women who worked there. Because he never forgot curves like that.

The dark-haired beauty glanced up from the rack she was straightening, and her face brightened with a familiarity that confirmed they’d probably hooked up once upon a time. “Luke?”

“Oh, hey, it’s good to see you again.” Damn. What was her name? “Suni?”

She laughed. “That’s my mom.” Striding over, she gave him a quick hug. “I’m Aylen. And it’s good to see you too.”

His gaze slid to Andy, who watched their interaction with narrow-eyed suspicion.

“My bad, Little Bird, this is Aylen. Aylen, this is Andy.”

“Nice to meet you,” Aylen said warmly. “Are you shopping for anything in particular today?”

Andy merely nodded before slanting a skeptical eye towards the plethora of colorful clothing in the store.

“She needs something to wear to the Sin Spot tonight,” Luke elaborated.

“Oh, fun, I’ve got just the thing!” Aylen strode over to one of the racks, shifted some hangers about, and came back with a sparkly rose-gold minidress. “This would look great with her pink undertones.”
