We are about to drive away when the gates open and a vehicle speeds through. We get close, and it stops. It’s Enrico. “Hey, you two.”
“What happened to your face?” I ask. He has a scratch on his cheek.
“Had to deal with a little bitch, but I quickly handled that problem. Now I have another problem on my hands. Thanks for the tip, Alessio. All three have fallen. I owe you.”
We hear someone shouting from the trunk. “Let me out, you fucking asshole.” A female someone. I promised June we never dealt in females and innocents like that, and fucking Enrico’s got one in the trunk. Fuck me.
“Excuse us,” I say, needing to get her far away before she figures out who it is.
“What the hell?”
“He’s not going to hurt her.”
“What the hell do you mean? Whoever she is, she’s in a trunk. I could have sworn I recognized her voice too.” We reach the house and just as we get out of the car, she gasps and starts to run. I’m on her in a second, picking her up from behind and carrying her into the house.
“He has January, and you were the one who sent him after her.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Liar.”
“Okay, I told him where she was, but that’s because…well, let’s just say he’s not as subtle about his feelings as I am.”
“What the fuck?”
“So he’s not trying to hurt her?”
“He’s not going to hurt her, but given that she’s fiery, I’m guessing she wound up in the trunk for a reason.”
“I’m fiery as well.” She huffs, slapping her hands on her hips.
“Yes, but I wouldn’t put you in the trunk.”
“How do I know that?”
“Because that implies I’d let you leave. Hello—we’ve been over this. The bed has your name written all over it. I need to invest in those kinky bed ties or some shit like that. Get you all restrained so you can’t leave and I can make you come all day long.”
“You are trying to get out of this by seducing me, and it’s not going to work.”
“Get out of what?”
“You helped him find January. Why?”
“She’s been scooping on Coleman, and she’s a fucking reporter. We need to know what she’s told her bosses.”
“Why?”
“Girl, didn’t I say there were things I couldn’t tell you?”
“I suppose you’re right, but that means you work with a sleazebag like Coleman.”
“No, we don’t, but we have connections, and that’s all I’ll say.”
“Okay. Whatever. Tell Enrico not to hurt her.”
I send him a text to make my woman happy.Don’t hurt January or my woman won’t be happy.
I don’t hurt women. Even if she’s a sexy brat.I show her the text, and she giggles.
