I relief washes over me know she doesn’t suspect anything, “I’m not sure. Probably continue my job search. The more applications I have out there the better my chances are. I have also been toying with the idea of going back to finish up school online so I plan to research that.”

“Oh yeah, you didn’t finish school. I keep forgetting that. Do you want to come with me to go shopping and have lunch? Lily is going with me. I haven’t gotten to hang out with her lately, so I’m going to bribe her with a shopping trip.” A coy smile stretches across her face.

I shake my head. “As much as I would love to, I think I’ll stay back and relax.” I know I am welcome, but I feel like Josie and Lily need some time with each other. Ever since I have been around, I’ve been tagging along with Josie and Lily. I think some quality time between the two of them would be better.

“Are you sure?” She raises a brow.

I nod. “Thank you though.”

She takes her empty cup to the sink. “If you change your mind, just give me a call.” She comes back for her phone and then heads off to her room. A few minutes later, she comes out with her purse and sunglasses on her head. “I know Lily would love for you to join us, and I would love to spend some time with you, too.”

I chuckle. “I think you two need some time together, and I’m beat. I live quite the busy life.” My voice drips with sarcasm.

She draws out a long sigh as she makes her way to the front door. “Ok, your loss.” She turns to shoot me a playful wink, “Love ya. Talk to you later.”

“Love ya, too, Josie. See you tonight.”

She walks out the door just as my phone starts to vibrate in my pocket. I pull it out and see a number I don’t recognize. I answer it with hesitation, thinking maybe Bradley is using an alternative phone number since I blocked him. I wouldn’t put it past him.

“Hello?”

“Hi!” A woman’s voice greets me exuberantly. “Is this Elena Pruitt?”

“Uh. Yeah. It is. Who is this?”

“Oh yes! My name is Kim, from Blueberry Boutique. We had the interview last week.”

I feel my shoulders relax and relief lighten the load. “Of course! Yeah. How can I help you?”

“I was wondering if you are still interested in that position?”

“Wait. Really?” Even if this job isn’t exactly what I want, it is still something that can get me moving forward, changing my life for the better.

She lets out a small laugh. “Yes! Of course!”

“Yes. Yes! I would love to work for you,” I tell her before she can change her mind.

“Great. Can you come by Wednesday? It’s my slow day. We can get your paperwork filled out and show you the ins and outs of the store.”

“Yeah. That’s perfect. What time?”

She clicks her tongue, and I hear papers being moved around. “How about ten in the morning?”

“Sounds good!” I say.

“Great! I’ll see you then.” She pauses. “Oh, and Elena, this is my cell phone number. You can save it into your phone.”

“Thank you so much. I will see you Wednesday.” The call ends. I smile and think about how things seem to be looking up. I no longer feel so lost or like such a burden. Yes, this isn’t everything I had planned for my life, but it’s a start.

I clean up my mess, then go to the fridge and see it is almost empty. I guess I’ll have to go to the main house to get a snack. Sheri probably put some leftovers in the fridge. I sigh and head over there. I have been quite hungry with all the extra workouts I have been putting in with Jasper. I never thought I would have such stamina, nor did I expect it from him, but together, we do.

I enter the kitchen and find Jasper leaning against the counter with a coffee cup in hand. He is already dressed with jeans and a T-shirt, which doesn’t surprise me since he had to pick up Lily early this morning from the slumber party. If it weren’t for that I am sure he would have slept in after the eventful day we had yesterday. He smiles when he sees me but tries to hide it as he sips from his cup.

I give him a smile in return. “Morning.”

“Lily just left with Josie.” He sets his cup down and walks over to me. His hands slowly wrap around my waist as he gives me a small tug. My stomach flutters into my chest. His lips meet mine.

“Someone is being sweet this morning,” I say, through his lips that are barely touching mine.
