HUNTER
“I don’t see him,”Gunner broke the silence.
“According to our lead, he’s supposed to be here,” I told him. We had been sitting in a blacked-out escalade for over four hours waiting for this guy to show up.
“Well, he’s not,” he responded. “At what point do we give up and go for drinks?”
“Hot date tonight?”
“Nah, just hoping the twins show up again.”
This guy.
Before I gave into what was happening with Harleigh, I didn’t go through the women like he did. One girl at a time was enough for me, especially the girls who spent their time at the clubhouse.
“We’ll give it another hour. If he doesn’t show by then, we’ll call it quits.”
Dumbass:
Hellcat is covered in blood. Going to hospital.
My stomach dropped.
Me:
What?
Dumbass:
See you there.
Me:
WTF?
“We’re outta here,” I told Gunner.
“I thought you said we couldn’t leave ‘cause we’re on a stakeout.”
“Hellcat’s at the hospital, we gotta go.”
He could have handled this job on his own, but we only had one vehicle. There was no way I could pay attention while I was wondering what the fuck was going on with her.
“Why’s she there?” he asked as he took another drag of his cigarette.
“No fucking clue.”
Me:
Tell me what’s going on.
Nothing.
“Fuck. Text someone for me and find out what the hell is going on.”
He pulled out his phone and his fingers flew over the screen as I sped down the road to get to the hospital. “No one’s responding. Do you think it was a hit?”
“I hope not.”
