»How far along are you?«
»I’m almost finished.«
»Almost?« He raised an eyebrow, and I faltered.
»I only need a few more minutes.«
He lowered his mouth to my ear, and a shiver instantly crawled down my spine. »Those are a few minutes too late,« he murmured. My fingers tingled with the desire to pull him close and rid ourselves of this craving that was steadily building between us. I could feel the heat of his body through his stylish designer suit.
»And what do you want to do now?« I asked quietly. He looked into my face again and instantly, I recognized the dark desire that entered his gaze. Had I misunderstood his icy demeanor and his hard behavior towards me? Was he merely struggling to conceal that very expression?
He was battling with himself, and I had no idea whether I wanted him to win or lose this fight.
»I’d most like to punish you for this impudence, Miss Sullivan. Let you feel that there are consequences when you are negligent with your work.« He still didn’t touch me, yet his words alone ignited a fire within me that caused my core to contract fiercely and desirously. »And then, I’d show you that I’m more than willing to reward your good performance. Thoroughly.« God, was he still talking about our work or something completely different? »That’s what I’d want if I could.« He walked back to his desk and sat down, leaving me turned on and trembling in the middle of his office. »And now, take those minutes and report immediately when you’re finished.«
»Yes, sir.« I simply couldn’t resist, and I saw his features harden even more, his gaze darken even further. As I turned away and left his office, I was nothing but pent-up frustration that would eventually need to find an outlet.

It was dangerous, what was building within me, and yet I couldn’t turn it off. This constant yearning for Brianna and her perfect body, into which I wanted to sink, to possess.
The urge grew stronger every day, and I never would have thought it would be so difficult to work with her. In three days, we would fly to Las Vegas and inspect the hotel I planned to buy. Three more days and I hadn’t informed her. Perhaps because I feared what would happen if we had two days and an entire night to ourselves. Far away from everything that prevented us from indulging in our desire for each other. In a city with no boundaries and a thousand possibilities. This could only backfire. Or become something truly fantastic.
Having been in the company for almost three weeks now, I wanted to gather all the employees and thank them for their work. It was only right to regularly make one’s presence known as a boss, and especially to loosen the reins, which I had significantly tightened immediately upon my arrival, for a moment to keep motivation high. This mix generally worked quite well for me. At least with everyone other than Brianna. I wanted to hold her, tightly, and see that combative sparkle in her eyes when I demanded things from her that drove her crazy. In good ways as well as bad.
»Have you prepared all the documents?« I positioned myself next to Brianna’s desk. Surprised that I dared step foot outside my office, she looked up. Whenever she sat at her desk, she wore black-rimmed glasses, which instantly reminded me of the past and suited her incredibly well. Whenever she looked at me over the rim of her glasses with her grey eyes like she did now, it became even more difficult for me to maintain distance.
»I’m in the process.«
»The meeting is in ten minutes.«
»Correct, I am aware of that,« she replied, pressing her beautiful lips together. »And I would have finished already, if you weren’t hindering me from doing so with your questions.« Never before had my thoughts at work so often veered in an inappropriate direction as now. For that snippy reply, I either wanted to take her over my knee or send her home. I wouldn’t have accepted such behavior from any other of my employees, and would have fired them immediately. But I wanted to drive it out of Brianna in an entirely different way.
She stood up and grabbed a stack of papers. »I just have to make copies of these, if you don’t mind.«
She turned away from me and walked to the copier, which was on a table in a corner of her office. I would wait for her and stood in front of the window front while she fed the machine with the documents. From here, there was a fantastic view over part of a park.
»By the way, we’re flying to Las Vegas in three days to inspect the Grand Fountains.«
»In three days?« She turned around to face me, and I realized just how small her office was, how close we stood to each other. Given how huge mine was, this area could have been a bit larger. Maybe I’d tackle that.
»Is that a problem?« I put my hands in the pockets of my suit pants, just to make sure I didn’t touch her.
She seemed briefly surprised, then shook her head. Today, she wore her long, wavy brown hair down. I liked that. »No, of course not. I always have an emergency suitcase at home for such surprising trips,« she said, and I had to restrain a grin.
»Good.« I took a step toward her as the copier whirred in the background. That sound and her soft sigh was all that could be heard. Or had I imagined it? »I will give you the details of the flight.« Whenever we were as close as we were now, I was surrounded by her scent. It was a delicious form of torture. Perhaps the attraction between us was solely based on the fact that we couldn’t have each other? Even back then, we knew it would never work, and yet during our kiss, we had felt how perfectly we matched physically.
»What? We’re not flying on a fuel-guzzling private plane, but on a public aircraft?« She knew she didn’t have to worry about her job and that I would never fire her, perhaps she even had an inkling that I secretly craved her sarcastic comments.
She jutted out her chin, as if she needed to show me that I couldn’t hurt her. »If it were up to me, we could sit in a small car for forty hours and make our way like that,« I replied composedly.
»Perhaps not,« she murmured. »I’d rather take the flight, maybe we can postpone the road trip for another business trip.«
This time I couldn’t help but grin. »What a shame. I was looking forward to it so much.« The copier beeped and requested more paper. The spell was broken and the fog in my mind cleared. Dangerous wasn’t even close to describing these situations with her. »I’ll see you in conference room one,« I said, although I actually wanted to accompany her to the employee meeting. But indeed, it was enough to soon be cooped up with her for nearly five hours on a flight. And her proximity wasn’t even the worst part of it.
