We lock eyes as the train roars past us, speeding away down the tracks.
Silence descends over us.
“It’s over,” he murmurs quietly, both of us breathing heavily as our eyes lock. “It’s over, and I love—”
I crush my lips to his, kissing him madly as the tears stream down my face.
“…You.”
EPILOGUE
One month later:
“Call me, okay?”
Nora rolls her eyes in the dramatic way only a teenager can pull off.
“Yes,Mother.”
I glare at her. “Don’t do that. You know I hate when you call me that.”
She grins. “I’ll call, Elsa.”
I stick my tongue out at her. “Have fun.”
“We won’t be out late, Ms. Guin.”
I cringe. Theo calling me that sounds so…mom-ish.
“Goodnight, Theo,” I sigh, giving a wave as the black Escalade pulls away from the curb and cruises away.
“Feeling old yet?”
I groan, turning to see Hades behind me, lounging on the front steps of his building.
“Slightly, yes.”
He grins. “She’ll be fine.”
I turn back, watching Nora drive off with Theo, another boy and a girl I know from her grade, and another girl I don’t know.
“Theo’s not after your sister, don’t worry. One, he knows I’ll fucking castrate him if he even tries to touch her. And two, he’s got a crush on Galina.”
I frown. “Galina?”
“The other girl in the car.” Hades smirks. “Russian. Her dad works for Gavan. So that could get real interesting real quick.”
For now, when it comes to the Reznikov Bratva, there’s still a ceasefire. Not a truce, a ceasefire. The Drakos and Kildare families arenotnow suddenly allies of the Russians. But no one has any plans to kill each other in the streets. At least, not today.
So that’s a plus.
“Also, she’s still got that panic button on her keys,” Hades adds.
“Yeah? Good.”
He wraps an arm around my shoulders, leaning down to kiss my cheek.
“C’mon upstairs. Let’s have dinner.”
