I lean against the brick wall, the darkness obscuring my body. Waiting in the shadows, I stare across the street at her apartment building. Students pass by on their way across campus. It’s after ten o’clock, and the parties are in full swing.

Alex hasn’t dated anyone while attending RISD. Not even a single kiss. She shares an apartment with her twin and mostly keeps to herself. But tonight, she’s having company.

Two girls from her art class and one of Aiden’s friends. I hate that a man is in her apartment right now getting to look at her. I hate knowing he’s staring at her, thinking about doing disgusting things to her.

Whenever she’s gotten too close to a man, one of us put a stop to it. Death threats are incredibly motivating reasons not to touch our girl. If necessary, I will kill Aiden’s friend. Anyone who gets in my way will be eliminated.

Last night, we received intel that men were looking for the heirs to the Wellington fortune. And since I don’t mind killing her enemies, I volunteered to drive to Providence.

Luca is in Cambridge, holding court for the new members of The Devil’s Knights. He’s popular everywhere he goes. Despite being a world-class dickhead, Luca never has a problem getting people to follow him.

The girls on campus flock to him, begging for one minute of his time. It’s like high school all over again. And I’m the brother everyone fears.

No one speaks to me.

No one looks at me.

They know better.

I like it that way.

Around midnight, Alex leaves the apartment with two brunette girls and a boy with black hair. He’s thin and tall, with a pointy nose, and wearing faded jeans and a band T-shirt.

This guy isn’t her type.

Alex doesn’t pay him any attention and waves without looking at him. He heads in the opposite direction.

The girls cross the street and turn left toward a bar. I push off the wall, keeping my distance, listening to their conversation as I trail behind them.

“You should have a drink with us,” the girl on Alex’s right says. “I want you to meet Kieran.”

“Yeah,” the other girl says. “Just one drink. It won’t kill you.”

“I can’t.” Alex gives her a sweet but forced smile. “Aiden is waiting for me at home. Maybe next time.”

The girl bobs her head. “If you change your mind, we’ll be here until two.”

Alex waits until they enter the bar and sighs. She brushes the blonde curls off her forehead, shoving them out of her pretty, blue eyes. I see the longing on her face and know how she feels. It’s hard not being like everyone else.

Carl Wellington warned his grandchildren to be careful on campus. He didn’t give them the specifics about the danger, but he did alert them.

I don’t bother hiding when she spins around, flicking the curls over her shoulder. Startled, she gasps, her hand flying up to cover her mouth.

“Hello, Pet.” I slide my fingers beneath her chin and pull her closer. “Did you miss me?”

She drops her hand to her side and blinks as if she doesn’t believe I’m really here. “Damian?”

Curling my arm around her, I feel the delicious curves of her perfect body. She’s no longer the skinny girl we met in high school. Alex has big tits, thick thighs, and a sweet ass I dig my fingers into.

Her lips part as I grip her tighter. “What are you doing in Providence?”

I lift her into my arms and lead her into the dark alley, pressing her back against the wall. “I’m keeping the monsters away.”

She blows out a breath of air and seems disappointed by my response. “Then who will save me from you?”

“Aww, Pet.” I stroke her cheek. “Don’t act like you don’t enjoy playing with monsters.”

“I’m still mad at you.” She shoves her palms into my chest. “You left me again. All of you did. And you didn’t even have the decency to return any of my calls or texts.”
