When he returned to the table, he set the massager next to me, his hand then going to my chin, where he lifted my face even higher. Our eyes locked.

“Relax, Pepper. This is going to be fun.”

Every part of me was dying on the inside.

Shaking.

Freaking the fuck out.

He gave me a smile—a look that was so nefarious that I felt it all the way in my toes—and then he walked to the door, turning toward me to say, “Don’t worry; I’ll be right back,” before he opened it and left.

I still couldn’t breathe.

I couldn’t think.

But I knew I had to move.

Fast.

I waited a few seconds for him to go down the hallway, and then I rushed out, meeting my armed guard directly outside. “Take me to my apartment.” My hands clung to his massive arm. “Hurry.”

“Imiss you,” Scarlett said from the other end of the phone.

My eyes closed as I heard my best friend’s voice. Only a few months had passed since I’d left Miami, but during that time, I’d explained everything to her.

And because she was a financial genius, she’d moved all my liquid assets to an offshore account that my boyfriend had set up.

Not a single penny could be traced.

As for the real estate—my two homes and the clubs and the apartments I kept upstairs of the clubs—those were in escrow, sold as pocket listings that one of Scarlett’s connections had set up. She would wire the money from each sale to a different offshore account, ensuring it could never be located.

A few moments after I’d stepped foot on my boyfriend’s plane, my clubs had been closed. The doors locked. The computer system and database of members exploded, tiny bits floating into cyberspace, where they could never be pieced together.

If Luke had thought he was going to take me down, he was wrong.

Maybe I ran.

Maybe, in a sense, he won because I was no longer in business.

But my man helped guarantee that two very important things happened: Luke Duff would never hurt me, and he would never have access to my client list, which was what he had been after in the first place.

He’d wanted what I had.

And there was no way in hell I was giving it to him.

“I miss you more,” I said to Scarlett. “When are you and Hudson coming to visit?”

“In a few weeks. That’s the first availability our jet had. The boys are too busy flying around the world to listen to me bitch about needing another plane.”

“A few weeks is close enough.” I stared through the tall floor-to-ceiling windows, taking in the skyline that was more beautiful every day. “I can’t wait to see you.”

“Is it as humid in Bangkok as it is in Miami?”

“Worse,” I groaned. “But you’re going to love it here. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The food is delicious. The culture is amazing. And of course, your favorite person in the universe is here.”
