‘Well, it is for me,’ he said. ‘I like the view.’

He took a seat, and Anna did the same.

‘I really don’t mind moving.’

‘Well, I do.’

He ordered coffee and she watched him yawn. She guessed he hadn’t returned to his villa after leaving her.

‘I was just about to text Emily,’ she told him. ‘I didn’t want to disturb her too early.’

‘No need. I have just come from breakfast with Alejandro.’

Gosh, Anna thought, he certainly got things done.

‘The baby is doing well for its dates and size. Though I forgot to ask what it weighed again. Emily is...’ he rolled his hand ‘...emotional.’

‘With good reason.’

‘I’m not criticising,’ Sebastián said. ‘Just reporting.’ He met her eyes and gave her a small smile. ‘What else...?’ He thought for a moment. ‘She’s asked if you will get her a few things. There’s quite a list.’

He took out his phone to read from his list, and Anna took out hers so she could type the list into her Notes app. Then he suggested he just send her the list instead.

‘Okay, but let’s go through it so I can get her exactly what she wants.’

‘Lip gloss.’

‘Lip gloss?’ she checked. ‘Oh, do you mean lip balm?’

‘I took it to be lip gloss.’ He looked at her mouth, and then back to her eyes. He could flirt like a pro, with a single glance. With a single word. ‘Maybe balm.’

There was no balm to be had in his gaze, so she flicked her eyes away and got back to the list.

It was quite extensive, given Emily had left Jerez with no notice, having expected to have three more months left to prepare herself for the arrival of her baby.

‘I’ll drive you to the hospital once you’ve got the shopping,’ Sebastián told her.

‘I can get a taxi.’

‘If you prefer,’ he said. ‘Carmen is arriving tomorrow.’

‘What about your parents?’

‘My father has a hospital appointment in Madrid later in the week. I told him things were stable enough here, and that he should keep his appointment and then come afterwards.’

‘You’ve been busy.’

‘I’ve barely started,’ he said. ‘I’ll head back to Jerez soon. With Alejandro now on paternity leave, one of us has to work.’

‘But I thought your yacht was...arriving?’

Or whatever the correct term was!

He nodded. ‘I might tell Alejandro he can use it. They’ll be good to him.’

‘They?’

‘My crew,’ he said. ‘They’re like family, really.’
