That had been the mantra repeated to her since before she could walk—and, given she’d let her parents down so badly, and had been so badly let down herself, Anna was now cautious to the extreme.
But she was in Spain for one more night, and Willow was safe at home...
There was a refreshing simplicity in that it could only be one night...that it could only bethisnight...
Anna was curious too, because she didn’t recognise her own body and its response to his touch...
‘Don’t look now,’ Sebastián said, breaking into her decadent thoughts, ‘but the bride is looking worried.’
Anna jolted to attention. ‘If something’s wrong, I should go.’
‘Shh...’ He pulled her closer into him. ‘Weare what is wrong,’
‘Oh.’
‘Emily is not a fan of mine.’
‘I’d worked that out.’
‘Why don’t we finish this dance now?’ he said in a low, deep voice. ‘Then I will dance with a few others and you will do the same.’
‘Okay...’
‘But don’t dance with them like this,’ he warned.
‘I don’t think I could dance like this with anyone else,’ came her honest response, for it felt to her as though their bodies were melded together.
‘Maldita!’he said, as if her words had hollowed him. ‘I don’t want to let you go...’
It was necessary, though, and not just to put Emily off the scent. Seriously, if they did not part now then they would have to kiss, so painfully did her mouth ache for his.
‘You know where my suite is,’ he said as the music faded.
‘I don’t,’ she denied.
‘Anna, you saw me go in.’
She screwed her eyes closed, but the vision of that wooden door he had walked through last night was burnt into her mind.
Anna felt cold on this hot Spanish night when he let her go.
Bewildered.
Excited.
Things she had never felt before.
She walked back to the table and took a long drink of iced water, and sure enough Emily was over in a couple of moments, looking concerned.
‘What’s going on with you and Sebastián?’
‘I was just dancing with the best man.’
‘Come off it.’ Emily’s eyes were wide. ‘Anna, donotfall for his slick charm. He’s an utter bastard. He spits out women like olive pips.’
Though she winced inwardly, Anna kept her response light. ‘He’s a brilliant dancer, Emily, that’s all.’ She looked in Sebastián’s direction and, sure enough, he was dancing with a gorgeous raven-haired woman. ‘He’s working the room.’
‘I’d just hate you to get hurt.’
