‘Hey!’ He was waiting in the car to take her out for their unexpected adventure, and smiled when she got in. ‘I just have to drop into the equestrian school. I need to leave some brochures for Carmen.’
‘Can I meet her?’ Emily said. ‘I still haven’t taken any photos of her.’
‘You found some, though.’
‘Yes, but I’d love to speak to her, and I do want to see the equestrian school.’
‘Another day,’ Alejandro said. ‘I’m just dropping these off. We don’t have time to stop.’
There never was time to stop, but instead of dwelling on the elusive Carmen, she told him her news.
‘I’ve got two new clients,’ Emily said. ‘Well, one’s paid a deposit.’
‘That’s great. You’re building their websites?’
‘Yes.’
‘What sort of businesses are they?’
‘A sports centre in the North of England.’ Well, it was an indoor bowling centre...and the other was an MOT and tyre replacement franchise. ‘And I’ve got a craft beer company who’ve made a couple of enquiries.’
‘That’s great.’
‘I don’t know how I’m going to pretend to like beer.’
‘Were you pretending about the sherry?’
‘You’ll never know!’
He smiled at her teasing as they pulled in at the equestrian school. ‘I’d know,’ he said, and gave her a quick kiss before heading into the building.
She waited in the car, but the place was simply too beautiful to ignore and soon she climbed out, looking at the glorious mustard-yellow and white building, itching to go inside and find out more about the famous dancing horses.
Gosh, there was so much to explore and to see...six weeks was never going to be enough time. She doubted a full year would be enough.
It was her time with Alejandro that had especially raced by, though.
‘Couldn’t resist,’ Emily said, and he smiled as he walked towards her and saw she was taking photos. And, no, she couldn’t resist. As he approached her she took some shots of him.
God, he was beautiful.
He continued to walk towards her, his suit in the bright sun almost like liquid on his long limbs. And then he made her laugh, because he took off his jacket and threw it over one shoulder, then gave her a look, as if he were strutting down the catwalk.
‘Work it, baby...’ she said, and that made him laugh too. He pouted his lips and strutted, and she laughed so much she possibly took more photos of the ground and the sky than of him.
‘Alejandro...’
A woman, who could only be Carmen, was calling him. She had the same beautiful bone structure and the same effortless grace as she ran to catch up with her brother.
‘What are you here for?’
‘Carmen...’
His laughter quickly dropped away, Emily noticed.
‘I’ve just dropped off some brochures, as I told you I would.’
‘So why not stop by and say hello?’ she asked in Spanish.
