“The thing about this, and I don’t know if you seem to remember it or not, is that my son lobbied his class to get their parents to vote for Donut. It’s pretty personal, don’t you think?”
“That’s fair,” I reply, running a hand through my hair. “Well, I’m gonna go. If y’all need anything, let me know.”
As I say those words, the first drops of rain start. Hot stepping it to my SUV, I race the rain. When my ass hits the driver’s seat, the skies open, and water pours down. As rivers run through the dry ground, I pound my fist against the steering wheel, knowing the rain’s taking whatever evidence we haven’t found with it.
My mind is swirling as the rain comes down in sheets. I take the longest way home possible, hoping I’ll relax by the time I get there. I keep going over what little we’ve found out, and the fact I haven’t been able to see anything on any of the video footage from the school. It’s like this girl was taken by a ghost, and if I can’t figure out who that ghost is? Chances are, we’re never going to get her back – which is something I can’t fathom, and it infuriates every part of my being. I’ve lost people before, not been able to solve cases, and had to ask for plenty of help. But this girl? She reminds me of Kels, of Molly, and a young Stella.
When I look up, I realize I’m parked in the driveway of my house. No matter how often I try to not bring things home to Rina, it’s where I always end up – probably because she’s my anchor in storms.
Parking, I turn the ignition off and tiredly unfold my body from the driver’s seat. The back porch light flips on, showing off the silhouette of Rina standing in the doorway.
“You’re done early,” she comments, wrapping her arms around me as I enter the kitchen through the back door.
“Didn’t really wanna be,” I hug her back tightly, “but the rain ruined any chances we had at getting anything else out of the woods or field. I sent the guys home and decided to come on myself. If anything of interest happens to come across the tip line, they’ll let me now.”
“You’re super tense.” She runs her hands along my shoulders as if she could erase the weight I’m carrying.
“This is a lot. It’s more than I expected it would be. It’s not like I thought I’d never have big things happen, but we both know how quiet it typically is in this town. I just never thought this would be the first case I’d have to work as chief, and I never imagined we’d have so little to go on. What if we don’t find her?” I run a hand over my chin, not sure what to do with myself. I have all this pent up frustration and anger, and I don’t wanna take it out on her, but I feel like I’m going to explode if I don’t do something.
“I can feel it coming off you in waves, Mason. If you need me, take me.” Rina’s breathless voice echoes through the silence of the kitchen. “All that frustration? Take it out on me, big guy.”
“Remember, you asked for it,” I warn her, sliding my palm along the curve of her ass.
“I always ask, and there’s no one else I’ve ever trusted more than you.” She stands on her tiptoes, connecting our lips together.
“Hang on tight.”
“As tight as I can. Always.” Her words are a promise, as were mine.
“This has always been my favorite room in the house,” I whisper into her ear as I steer us toward the table. “Ever since we got married, and that one afternoon I came home early.”
“Where Kels was conceived?” She hooks her arms around my neck, angling for a kiss.
Pulling back, I evade – not because I don’t want the kiss, but because I want to answer her. “Yeah,” I smirk, “where Kels was conceived. In fact,” I bend down with my knees, lifting her up, “I’d like a replay of that.”
She throws her head back, laughing loudly. “At least we can’t have an accidental baby now. Lord, could you imagine?”
My eyes widen. “No, I don’t even want to think about it. Thank God for vasectomies,” I chuckle, grunting as I lift her completely, wrapping her legs around my waist.
“Where are you taking me?” she shrieks, holding on tightly.
“To our favorite spot in this room.” I hook my foot in the bar on the bottom of the chair and pull it out. “You wanna give yourself over to me, you’re gonna do it right now.” My ass meets the wood, and her legs spread over my lap. Using my thumb, I tilt her head down by pressing on her chin.
She snakes her tongue out, grabbing hold of my thumb, swirling it around. When I groan, she lets go. “I give myself over to you freely, Mason Harrison. Every. Single. Time.”
Chapter Seven
Menace
“Rina, I’m home.”
She comes out of the bedroom, wearing a small tank top and even smaller pair of shorts. I give thanks to the gods that it was hot as balls today. “Nice cheeks.” I take a handful of her ass when she turns from me to go to the fridge. She playfully smacks my hand away as I make for another grab, before she gets just out of reach.
Looking at me over her shoulder, she gives me a wink. “You might think I’m hot, big guy, but you have no idea how delectable you look when you come off shift.”
“Oh really?”
She winks as she grabs a bottle of water, taking a long drink. Splashes of the liquid she consumed are sticking to her lips, but she uses her tongue to wipe away the moisture and I have an instant hard-on. The way she runs her tongue along her bottom lip is the way she runs her tongue up my cock. “Really.”
