“Oh, thank God. I was so scared, Ben.”

“Well, if it’s any consolation, I think I need to change your underwear,” he said and let out a deep breath.

“I’m sorry, babe.”

“You have nothing to be sorry for. You’re doing great.”

“Bedrest? Really?”

“Uh-huh. I know it’s a bummer, but it’s the safest option.”

“You’d better let Alyssa in. She must be frantic out there in the waiting room.”

“Hey, sis. How are you feeling?”

“Climbing the walls. I tell you, Madi, if I don’t see a bed for another year it will be too soon.”

“Huh! You say that now. Wait until the babies are born. You know what they say about twins—twice the fun, four times the work.”

“Anything has to be better than watching reruns of Dallas and Friends.”

“All I’m saying is be careful what you wish for.”

“I guess.”

“By the way. I spoke to Mom and Craig, and they’ve agreed to watch the clan so I can be with you when you give birth.”

“Oh, Madi! That’s wonderful news.”

“Isn’t it? I get to see your new babies and I get to finish a sentence and pee without being interrupted,” she laughed.

“When are you coming?”

“You’re having the C-section next week, aren’t you?”

“Yes, and not a moment too soon, I’ll have you know.”

“Great. I’ll see you in a few days, then. I’m so proud of you, Pey.”

“What? For finally getting knocked up?” I teased.

“Yes, that. And for keeping the faith.”

“Thank you, Madi. I love you.”

“Hello, again,” the theater nurse greeted me with a smile.

“Yup, I’m back,” I grinned, nervously.

“This is a very exciting day for you and Dr. Forbes,” she smiled. “We couldn’t be happier.”

“Thank you.”

“Hey, beautiful,” Ben’s voice echoed in the passage. “Ready to meet our babies?”
