I couldn’t help laughing…which hurt like a bitch!

“Oh, please, stop. Laughing hurts,” I said and held onto my gut.

“Okay, okay. If you must know, yes. We have, and let me tell you, it’s the best sex I’ve ever had! Bar none. But it’s not just the sex. It’s everything. I gotta tell you, Pey, I think he’s the one.”

“Whoa, slow down. This from a woman who used to scoff at marriage? Who are you?”

“Tom’s amazing. I’ll bring him along the next time I visit.”

“Where’s he from?”

“Texas.”

“Yehaa, cowgirl,” I grinned. “Saddle up.”

Alyssa was glowing. I loved it.

“How are you really, Pey?”

“I’m happy. Ben is a dream come true. I just hope this operation turns out to be a success. I would love to have his babies.”

“You’re going to look back on this moment, one day when you’re cursing at your kids for dragging mud through the house and laugh at how silly you were for doubting.”

“From your lips to God’s ears, Lyssa.”

“Amen.”

Ben came home early. He brought steak and grilled it outside on the open flame. It reminded me of the first time I visited his house. Who would have guessed back then how my life would pan out?

No Mateo, a budding career, a wonderful man who loved me passionately, and the hope of having a baby of my own.

Ben and I retired early for the night. I lay on his arm while we chatted in the dark.

“How was your day, beautiful?” Ben asked while he stroked my hair.

“It was good. Missing you though. I’m glad you were able to come home early.”

“I’ve been so busy, I feel like I’m neglecting you.”

“Nonsense. Besides, Alyssa is keeping well entertained. She’s got a new man in her life.”

“Oh?”

“Uh-huh. A doctor from Texas. Sounds like it’s serious.”

“Well, if he’s from Texas, he must be used to roping and breaking in wild horses,” Ben chuckled.

“He must be very skilled. As are you, my sexy sensei.”
