“Oh, yeah? Do tell.”
“I think we should go to the cabin for a few days. We could use the distraction. What do you say?”
“It’s a wonderful idea, Ben, but if I don’t get back to work soon, the hospital will fire me.”
“Don’t you worry about that. I’ll pull a few strings. The CEO owes me a favor. Would you like to go?”
“Are you kidding? Of course.”
“Great. You get packing. I’ll ask a colleague to locum for me so that my patients are taken care of.”
“Sounds heavenly, Ben. Thank you.”
“I love you, Peyton.”
“I love you more, Ben.”

“It’s wonderful here, Ben,” Peyton purred as we lay by the fireplace in the cabin.
“No argument here,” I agreed and kissed her on the top of her head while she lay back against my chest.
“This feels so different from the last time.”
“Different?”
“Yeah. I’m much more relaxed.”
“I’m not surprised. No feelings of dread looming over you this time around.”
“Indeed. So…what did you have in mind for the few days we’re here?”
“We can do whatever you want, my beautiful.”
“Hmmm…how much firewood did you say we had?”
“Enough to last two winters.”
“Oh, good,” Peyton grinned and pulled her sweater over her head and threw it down on the rug.
“I’m really starting to see why you like this cabin,” I smiled.
“Prepare yourself for a whole lot of liking, Ben,” she teased and unzipped my pants.

My family was none the wiser when it came to the ordeal that Peyton and I had been through. Owen had called me while I was in Mexico, but obviously, I couldn’t tell him what I was up to, so I called him once we were back in the city.
“Hey, brother. You’ve been very quiet. Is everything alright?” he asked.
“I’m sorry, bro. Had to take care of something. It’s all sorted now.”
“Good. Wanna meet for a drink?” he suggested.
“Sure. Tonight, at the club?”
“Sounds good.”
