“Hi, Pey. Isn’t she just adorable?” she asked with a look of complete joy on her face.

“She’s the prettiest baby I’ve ever seen, Sis. And, trust me, I’ve seen a few.”

“I can’t believe she’s finally here. Would you like to hold her?”

“And interrupt her tasty breakfast? No way.”

“I meant after her feed, silly.”

“I’d love to. Where’s Craig?”

“He’s gone home for an hour or so. He’ll bring the boys back with him. I’m sure they’re dying to see their sister.”

“I suppose Mom and Dad will come then, too.”

“Yeah.”

“I’m all sticky. I think I’ll pop over to Mom and Dad’s for a shower and then come back with them.”

“That’s a good idea. Perhaps you can hold Gabi then.”

“I think so. I wouldn’t want our first meeting to be one where I’m all sticky and smelly,” I grinned.

“Hey, you couldn’t be any worse than her brothers,” Madi laughed.

“Good point. I’ll see you in a bit, Sis. Congrats again. She’s exquisite,” I said and kissed my sister on the forehead.

“Thanks, Pey. You’re next,” she whispered.

“You bet.”

I left mother and daughter to snuggle and called an Uber. I was looking forward to a long, warm soak in the tub and mom’s infamous, artery clogging, bacon and eggs breakfast. Outside, dawn was breaking, coloring the sky in stunning orange hues. I took in a deep breath and turned my face to the rising sun.

How wonderful it had been to share the auspicious occasion with Madison and Craig. I was happy.

The Uber driver pulled up outside the hospital.

“Good morning, Dr. Taylor,” he greeted.

“Hi, Derek.”

“May I take your bag?” he asked and reached for it.

“Uh, no, it’s fine. Thanks.”

I got into the car and soon we were on our way to Mom and Dad’s, turned my phone on and texted Mom.

Hey, Mom. Catching an Uber home. Dying for a good breakfast. Do you mind whipping up a Taylor special for me?

Mom texted back.

Good morning, sweetheart. Would you mind stopping at the store on your way and grabbing us some eggs? Dad and I are almost home from Madi’s place and I’m not sure I have enough.

I texted again.

Sure, thing. See you in a bit.

Love you.
