“That’s all right. I’d laugh too if it wasn’t such a nightmare,” she said and winked.
“Yeah, family can be a curse,” I said, trying not to go into too much detail.
“So you know,” Suzy grinned.
“Oh, yeah. I know.”
“Ben tells us you are new to New York. Are you coping with the pace?”
“It took a while, but I think I’ve got the measure of the place. Have you lived here long?”
“Born and bred. Have you been to a baseball game yet?”
“No, I haven’t really had time yet. It’s been crazy at the hospital. Being a resident isn’t for the fainthearted.”
“I suppose not.”
“What do you do?”
“I’m in advertising. I have the pleasure of dealing with pedantic wannabe starlets. Then again, I suppose I’ve had excellent practice all my life. You know, Mom and all,” she grinned.
“That sounds exciting.”
“It can be.”
“So, I take it you’re a baseball fan?”
“Oh, hugely! We should go some time. You’ll love it. I’ll even stick you to a hotdog with all the fixings.”
“You had me at hotdog,” I smiled.
Ben’s folks left at about 8 pm.
“Ugh! I ate way too much,” I said and rubbed my stomach.
“Your cheesecake was a hit. Almost as much as you.”
“Ahhh, thank you, Ben. Your family is lovely. I don't know why I was nervous.”
“I told you. What did you think of Suzy?”
“She’s very nice. She invited me to watch a baseball game with her.”
“Yeah, Suzy knows her stuff when it comes to baseball.”
“I’m looking forward to it. Thank you, babe.”
“For what?”
“For believing in me. In us.”
“Are you kidding? I just didn't want you to sue me for hospital expenses after your accident,” he smirked.
“Funny guy,” I said and play-punched him on the arm.
Ben grabbed the arm and held it behind my back.
“Watch it, missy,” he purred, “you only have one at the moment. Imagine what I can do to you if I hold onto it,” he teased and nibbled on my nipple through my shirt.
