“Yeah,” Ziggy draws out with a grin. “He’s a good guy.”

“So, are you two dating now?”

“We’re taking it day by day. It’s hard to start a relationship when we’re going away to college in a few months.”

“Where is he going?”

“Columbia.” He sighs.

“Yikes. He couldn’t have chosen one any farther away.” Ziggy is attending Pomona with me. Our co-dependency is real, and neither of us is ready to try life on our own quite yet.

“I know.” He lies back, resting his head on his hands. “It’s fine. He’s not my endgame. I won’t be happy until Daddy Corey admits he’s my soulmate.”

I roll my eyes and smack him in the chest. “Never going to happen. For one, he’s my dad, and that’s gross. And two, he had a fling with his college roommate once but has dated women ever since.”

“I feel like the only reason he’s holding back is because I’m in high school. Once I graduate, he’ll be all over my dick.”

I glance over at Owen, who’s pretending like he’s not listening. I had that same fantasy about him. It didn’t work out for me, and it won’t work out for Ziggy.

I roll my eyes. “I just threw up in my mouth.”

“Just wait and see. You’ll be calling me Stepdaddy in no time.”

I laugh. “I’m officially done with this conversation.”

Standing up, I pull my mask over my eyes and nose and dive into the water. Black swim trunks come into view, and I can’t help myself. I swim past him, making sure to drag my body across his. If he thought I was going to make this easy for him, he was wrong.

Owen

After a long day of swimming, we walk back to the house. I stay in the back, partially because that’s what I’m supposed to do but mostly because it gives me the best view of Baylor’s ass. Apparently, I’m a masochist.

“We have three hours until we leave for the bar, so I think I’ll sneak a nap in before dinner,” Baylor says as we walk into the house.

What is she talking about? I told her that wasn’t happening.

“Sounds good. I could use a nap too.” Sara yawns. I don’t know why she’s tired. She basically laid on a lounger all day.

“I think I’ll do paninis tonight. Something simple. Sound good?” Brandy asks.

“That sounds perfect. Get some carbs in us before we go drinking.” Ziggy high-fives Brandy.

Have they all lost their damn minds?

I catch up with Baylor in the hallway to our rooms. “I told you the club wasn’t happening.”

“And I told you it was.” She flashes me a smug grin, and I swear to God, my palm itches to take her over my knee.

“No.”

“You can call my dad and talk to him about it. I cleared it with him this morning.” She tosses her hair over her shoulder as she opens her bedroom door. “He thought it was a good idea.”

“I can’t believe you went over my head to your father.” I follow her into her room.

“I like getting my way. You should know that by now,” she snarks, setting her bag down on her bed.

“Don’t I fucking know it, but Baylor, I can’t keep you all safe. It’s impossible in that environment.”

“Owen, no one knows I’m here. Chill out.”
