“I don’t want to fight you either, but don’t think I won’t,” I threaten him, my voice taking on a teasing edge though we both know I’d see my threat through if I had to.
“You’re a force to be reckoned with, Addison Parks,” Noah says to me, a wry smile forming on his lips. “But I wouldn’t have you any other way.”
I grin up at him. “Well, good, cause I don’t have any plans to let you off the hook.”
“You wouldn’t be you if you did.”
“Just promise me that if things get worse, you’ll tell me. I want to be with you, Noah, but that means you need to let me help you when you need it. This is what we do. We protect each other. But you need to let me protect you too.”
“I hear you. I’ll try my best.”
“I know you will,” I say, tilting my chin up and brushing the length of his nose with mine.
Noah’s gaze is heavy as he looks down at me, his eyes warm and open. I reach up and run my fingers through his long hair. It’s still weird for me to come to terms with the fact that he’s here. With me. Right now.
Sometimes I still find myself worried that if I blink too long, he’ll be gone. “Take me to bed, Noah,” I whisper to him.
“What about dinner?”
I smirk at him, standing up on my tiptoes and pressing my lips to his, being careful of his still swollen lower lip. He kisses me back with fervor, apparently not caring about his injury, his tongue tangling with mine and his hands tightening on my hips. When I pull away, our lips are swollen, his still from being punched this morning, and mine from being kissed so deeply. Desire flares in Noah’s eyes, and I know I’ve convinced him.
“Dinner can wait,” he mutters, bending down and scooping me up into his arms, crossing the apartment until we’re in my bedroom.
Later, when we’re sweaty and sated, Noah rolls off me onto his back. He stretches his arm out, inviting me to curl up next to him. I snuggle into his side, pressing my cheek into his pectoral. His skin is damp from the exertion of our lovemaking, but I still turn my nose closer, feeling the tickle of the coarse hair on his chest and breathe him in.
He smells like sex, and Noah, and home.
His hand curls around my hip, pulling me into him. I drape one of my legs over his body and take a deep cleansing breath, my muscles relaxing against him. Noah tilts his head, so his cheek rests against my forehead.
“I hope you know how much you mean to me, Parks,” he mumbles. His voice is coming out in a deep masculine tone that I can feel rumble against my cheek on his chest.
I press myself tighter to him and smile into his skin. For the first time in longer than I can remember, the part I always thought was missing feels whole again, and the seams holding me together grow stronger.
Chapter 15
Noah
Tap, tap, tap.
My eyes scrunch shut at the interruption to my sleep. I growl low in my chest, my arms tightening around the thin body next to me. The incessant tapping against my shoulder continues, and I finally open my eyes, narrowly glaring at the woman lying next to me. Golden-hazel eyes stare back at me, wide awake and up to no good. I groan and roll onto my back, bringing her with me.
Addison giggles, restating herself atop of me. “Will you wake up already? You’ve been sleeping for a million years.”
“And it still isn’t enough,” I grumble. “What time is it anyway? I feel like it’s way too early for this.”
“It’s seven o’clock,” she chirps, and I groan again.
“I was right, way too early. Let me get my sleep, woman.”
“No-ahh,” she whines. I smile to myself, remembering the way she moaned my name precisely like that last night as I kissed her from head to toe relentlessly. Thankfully my split lip has healed quickly from when Eli punched me, and it doesn’t hurt to ravish my girl like she deserves. All that lingers from that altercation is a minor discoloration and a slightly wounded ego. “It’s time to get up so we can have breakfast and start our day.”
“I’d rather just stay here with you,” I mutter to her. She’s peering down at me from atop my chest, and I can see the shift in her, telling me that she isn’t going to put up with any excuses anymore.
“You’re with me practically all the time now, aren’t you tired of me yet?”
I roll her over, so now I’m the one on top. I give her a grin as I hover above her. “Never.”
I lean my head down, capturing her lips in mine and kissing her deeply. Her fingers thread through my hair as she holds me closely, her legs wrapping around my hips and digging her heels into my back. When I pull away, we’re both panting, out of breath. I grin at her. Addison’s legs are still wrapped tightly around me, causing our lower halves to be pressed together rather intimately.
