“You’re good for him, you know?” Catherine says, looking over at her son fondly. “I knew from the start that you were something special, and I’m so glad that he’s finally gotten his head out of his ass and come back for you.”
I can’t fight off the smile playing on my lips. “Me too.”
“You helped him more than you’ll ever know,” she tells me. “Sometimes, when my thoughts get the better of me, I wonder what would have happened if Noah had not gotten the intervention you provided. His father is such a manipulative man. I imagine Noah would have been groomed to follow in his footsteps.”
Catherine is probably right. I think back to the Noah I knew years before we meant anything to each other. He was so much different then than he is now. “Thankfully, I don’t think we have to worry about that.”
Her blue eyes flash to mine, and she smiles. “No, we don’t. My son is a good man. I couldn’t be prouder of him and all he’s doing.”
“Me too,” I respond, smiling back.
“You love him, don’t you?” Catherine asks me, a knowing glint forming in her eyes.
I nod my head. “More than I even know what to do with sometimes.”
She sighs, and a soft smile plays on her lips. “That’s all we ever want as parents. You hope you do right by your children and that they’ll grow up to be decent humans and maybe have the opportunity to find someone who loves them. As I said, I am so glad he found you. I’ve never seen Noah so happy than when you’re in his life.”
“I guess it’s a good thing my father moved us to Willow Heights, then,” I say with a sad smile.“No matter what a mess it’s turned into.”
I mean it too. Time gives you perspective; though I lost a lot, I also gained much more. The ups and downs are part of the journey we must endure. Though our moving to my now beloved town ultimately tore my family apart, I wouldn’t change anything.
Noah glances up from his conversation and locks eyes with me. A soft flutter forms in my stomach as he gazes at me appreciatively for a moment before returning his attention to the woman he’s speaking to.
Noah and I have been through much together. There have been so many nights where I’ve lain awake in bed, wondering if we would make it or if all the heartache was worth it. But again, now that we are here and have made it, I know with certainty that it all paid off.
I’ve lost a lot in my life, but I’ve also gained all of it back and even more, and without a doubt, knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Chapter 45
Noah
Morning comes all too soon. I’m awoken by the sound of my alarm, pulling me out of my dreams. Reaching over to the nightstand, I click the button on the side of my phone, shutting it off. Addison stirs next to me, slowly waking up.
I flip over on my side and face her. Her eyes flutter open and latch onto mine, hazel green to blue. A soft smile forms on her plump lips, and my heart flips as I gaze at her. I close the distance between us, wrapping my arm over the curve of her hips and pulling her close into me as I capture her gorgeous mouth.
Addison kisses me back for a moment before pushing me away and covering her mouth with her hand. “Noah, morning breath!” she accuses behind the shield of her hand.
I laugh and then pull her hand away from her mouth, claiming her lips once more. This time I push past the seam of her lips with my tongue and kiss her deeply. Addison moans against me, arching her back and pressing her breasts against my chest. Before we get too carried away, I pull back and grin down at her.
“For the record, I don’t care about your morning breath,” I tell her.
“What if I care about yours?” she shoots back, and I raise an eyebrow.
“Do you?”
She pauses dramatically for a moment but then slowly shakes her head, her full lips curving up in the corners. “No.”
I chuckle again, rolling over her until her back is pressing against the mattress. My hands move to cup her face as I retake her mouth. Addison’s legs spread and wrap around my hips, pulling me into her as close as she can.
“Parks,” I murmur in between kisses. “Don’t you think we should get up and get breakfast?”
“Hmm,” she says back, kissing my neck. “I actually have something better on my mind right now.”
I groan out loud as she shifts her hips up against me. I grind down against her heat, my body stiffening as images of sliding deep inside her fill my mind. Without wasting time, I reach down between us, hooking my fingers under the seam of her panties and sneaking them down her thighs. Addison wiggles underneath me, helping to rid me of my boxers too. She spreads her legs wider when there’s nothing left between us, allowing me to seat myself against her core.
We both groan at the contact, and I slide against her before notching at her entrance. My eyes catch hers, and she nods her head. “Please, Noah.”
I reach down and make sure I’m aligned properly before I shift my hips into her and deep inside her. Addison tosses her head back with a groan and thrusts her pelvis toward me. I slide in and out of her, both of us getting lost in the pleasure of each other.
