Jealousy swirled inside me. “Who was she?”

He cocked his head. “Just some girl who doesn’t know how extraordinary she is.”

I stifled a grin.

“One who has my back no matter what,” he continued.

A ripple rolled through my belly.

“One who’d take down anyone to protect me, including the blonde bitch who tried to kill me.”

“I would.”

“You would,” he agreed, taking my hand and spinning me around.

I threw back my head and laughed, and there wasn’t a thing in this world—or any other—that could stop it.

“Don’t ever stop doing that,” he said once he’d pulled me against him again.

“What?”

“Laughing. Smiling. Being amazing.”

I slipped my arms back over his shoulders and stared into his pretty eyes. “Only if you agree first.”

Sadness filled his eyes, and I knew he hated not being able to make that promise. “I’ll try.”

“I’ll take that,” I said, resting my head against his shoulder and letting him sway us to the music.

“So, how many guys haveyoudanced with on a beach?” he asked.

“It’s a long list,” I said. “You sure you wanna know?”

“I think I can handle it,” he said.

“Well…let me think…ummm…maybe the list isn’tthatlong.”

He chuckled.

“Now that I think about it, there was just one,” I admitted.

“Who was he?” he asked, playing along.

“Just some guy who doesn’t know how extraordinaryheis.”

“Go on,” he said, fishing for compliments again.

“One who is too good looking for his own good,” I continued.

“You think I’m—he’sgood looking?” he asked.

“Very. And he has this way of making me feel special.”

“Has? Should I take that to mean you still see him?” he asked.

I pulled back and looked him in the eyes. “Oh, I see him.”

His lips slipped into a sexy smile. “Is he a good dancer?”
