I wore the heels and followed him. “I’m your boss, so I can buy you clothes, okay? You already live at the manor and attend my classes. Might as well—”

“Right.” He gave me a dark look, and for a moment, I feared what he might do and say. “I’m going to buy you shoes and then we are going to every single shop in this mall, and I’m buying you everything I want. Car keys are with me, so you are not getting out of this.”

Well, that is definitely the scariest threat if I have ever heard one.

Biting my cheek from smiling, I followed him. Because of his longer legs, his stride was long, too, but whenever he walked with me, he’d slow down so I didn’t have to run behind him. It made me want to smile even harder.

Not good, Em. Not good.

I was falling for him.

My hands clenched into a fist as I watched my little Emma getting scolded by the jerk. He was rude and mean to her. Looked scary too. With that ugly scar running across his lips.

“Sir, do you want something else?”

“No.” I took the bottle of water and walked out of the food court, keeping my eyes on Emma. She had done her hair so well that day with a white bow pinned on the back of her head. Just a few more weeks when that hair is in my hands and I wake up to it.

Oh, I was getting too excited in public.

My smile dropped when her ugly-ass bodyguard held her waist and walked into another clothing store. But what was more horrifying was that she was smiling…

Oh, my poor little Emma. Faking her smiles in front of him.

I needed to save her soon.

And I knew a way to remind her that I was coming to protect her. Opening my phone, I checked the time and finalized my note, sending her a couple of pictures.

Unknown: Don’t worry about your ugly-ass bodyguard. I will take care of him soon enough. Our home is ready! I can’t wait to have you here, love.

IT’S OKAY

EMMA

My hands were shaking since morning. I had barely eaten my breakfast and forced myself to swallow a glass of orange juice. I almost shrieked when Summer hugged me from behind, her usual morning routine, telling me a terrible dad joke.

“Emma.”

I clutched my skirt and looked at Mia sitting across me. The chair next to me screeched, and I held my breath when Summer sat down.

“Are you okay?” she asked, concern lacing her voice.

I shook my head and pushed my plate away. “I am jumpy and sc—nothing.” They didn’t know about the stalker, and I didn’t want them to worry. If I told Mia, James would know, and that idiot in love would arrange for top security to be everywhere, and Mia would be stuck with a bodyguard as well.

“Oh, come on, you were about to say it,” Summer said, her shoulder bumping against mine. “Finish the sentence.”

I looked around to find a certain tall, tattooed, and bossy bodyguard. He was easily noticeable amongst everyone leaning on the wall while raising his brow at me.

I faced my friends and said, “It’s a girls’ night today. We will have a sleepover at my house, and I’ll tell you why I’m so sc—jumpy.”

They weren’t convinced but agreed to meet me at my house.

When I was walking to my next class after the lunch, Cillian stopped me with his hand on my elbow. I followed him when he nodded at the nearby classroom.

“You’re not okay, Emma. Let’s go home.”
