Chapter Fifty-Nine
Bode
Iblink a few times. A florescent light flickers overhead. A machine beeps beside me. My brain feels fuzzy.
I blink again, and Eli’s right in my face.
“You’re awake.”
What the hell is happening?I try to sit up but there’s a searing pain in my side. My head is pounding now.
“Where are you going? Sit the fuck back,” Eli says, pushing my shoulder gently.
It finally sinks in. The hospital. I’m in the hospital.
“What am I doing here?” I ask, scanning the room again.
He sits back down on a chair beside my bed and says, “Well, you tried to get yourself killed, I think.”
I close my eyes and try to remember. “They robbed me.”
“Yeah. We got everything back,” he says. I open my eyes. “Really?”
“Idiots forgot we could track your phone. How stupid is that?”
He hands me my phone and wallet. I immediately open the wallet and look inside. I sigh when I see Juno’s drawing still tucked away in the back.
Eli frowns. “What are you looking for?”
I take a deep breath – it hurts like hell just to breathe. “Just wanted to see if they took anything.”
A shadow crosses over Eli’s face and he says, “You were really lucky. The doctor said you lost half the blood in your body by the time you arrived.”
Shit.
“You were seconds from dying. If you hadn’t been found right away...”
He lets his voice trail off.
Before I can reply, the nurse walks in and says, “I see someone is awake. How are you feeling?”
“Like shit,” I say.
