Bode: Hopefully we will see each other more.
Juno: Bode...you know how I feel about everything. I can’t hook up with you anymore.
Bode: Yeah. I know. I’d still like to be friends.
Juno: Gone on your blind date yet?
Bode: This weekend.
Juno: Good luck.
Bode: Thanks. And congratulations again.
Chapter Fifty-Six
Bode
When our food arrives, I think about how excited Juno gets whenever her food arrives. She loves to smell everything and admire the way it’s plated before she starts eating. I look over at Britta. She doesn’t seem to care one bit.
“Does your food look okay?” I ask.
She smiles. “Yes. Everything looks fine. Truth be told I’m very utilitarian about food. I guess I’m odd, but I just eat for fuel, you know?”
I don’t know, but I get what’s she’s saying. Everyone’s different. That’s fine.
We eat for a bit and then she says, “How’s your food.”
“Delicious,” I say.
She nods and resumes eating. Britta is beautiful. She’s really passionate about her work as a pediatric nurse. I can see why Zadie wants to set her up with someone.
“Do you have any favorite words?” I ask.
She scrunches up her face. “Favorite words?’
“Yeah. Are there any words you just like saying?”
