Bode: Rebound with someone else.
Juno: Okay. Want to be my rebound?
Bode: What?
Juno: Spring break is coming up. I’d like to forget Seth. Can you make that happen?
Bode: Is that what you really want?
Juno: Yes.
Bode: Okay, where do you want to go? Here? Back to Italy? We can go anywhere.
Juno: You’ll take me anywhere?
Bode: Sure. Where do you want to go?
Juno: Quebec
Bode: Sounds good to me. Send me the dates.
Chapter Forty-Eight
Juno
“It’s beautiful here,” I say. His arm is draped over my shoulder. We’re walking through the streets of Quebec City.
“Yeah. It is. I’m glad we came.”
I look up at him. “Food is good too.”
“I would never take you anywhere without great food.” He squeezes my shoulder. My eyes linger on him for too long. I shouldn’t be here. We shouldn’t be here together, but it feels so good. We’re just pretending like the last nine months didn’t happen – that he didn’t kick me out of his life, break my heart. I get it. He’s just interested in a fling, nothing more. I don’t know if my heart can handle it, but I miss him so much that I don’t care right now. I’ll have to care at the end of the week, but for now, I’d rather live in a bubble of my own lies.
“Want to go to the break-neck stairs?” he asks.
I give him a funny look. “Um...no.”
