“I know they love us, but they have to let us live our lives,” Brooklyn says.

“I’m not going to do anything stupid, and I love all of you, but I want a chance to interact with people outside of our family.”

Maggie shakes her head and starts laughing. “Yeah. You shouldn’t have to beg for that.”

“Are they leaving you alone?” Zadie asks.

“Well, I have the Secret Service agents, of course, but everyone else has chilled out – even Eli.”

“It’s not easy for him,” Brooklyn says.

“I know. I appreciate that he’s making the effort.”

“So were you making this little pronouncement because there’s a man?” Brooklyn asks, with a sly smile.

My heart thuds. If only...

“No, there’s no man,” I say.

“Too bad,” Olivia says.

“I’d like for there to be a man, and I was finding it near impossible with the guys breathing down my neck,” I say.

Brooklyn laughs. “Been there, done that. Don’t miss it.”

“I was contemplating running away like you.” I give Brooklyn a knowing look.

She returns the look. “I don’t doubt it.”

“Well, I’m glad it didn’t come to that,” Zadie says. “You know if you want me to set you up...”

Everyone groans.

“No, thank you,” I say.

“Let me know if you change your mind.”

Sterling Family Group Text

James: I have something important to tell everyone. I hate that I’m doing it over text, but the news is about to break so I don’t have a choice.

Brooklyn: What is it? Is everyone okay?

James: We’re fine, but it’s about the bombing.

Zadie: Do you know something?

James: Yes. We found the group responsible for the bombing. Arrests are being made right now. There was a raid last night.

Eli: I’m glad you found them.

Declan: Do you think you got all of them?

James: We think so.

Zadie: Thank god.

Juno: Who are they? Why did they do it?
