She cleared her throat. “Oh, well, the clubs I’ve been in have had an area like that by the bar they put in the sub lounge. That way, it’s easier to watch over us … I meanthem. You could have long sofas here and here and here,” she said and pointed out. “Block the area off with one of them, so there’s only one way for them to move out of the lounge without you knowing.”
Macy nodded. “We saw that in a few. I like the idea. Our main objective is to keep the subs from harm, and we’ve talked about them being our first priority.”
The other three nodded. That was really nice to know. “Um. If I might add,” she said without looking any of them in the face. You could take a sub out of the kink club, but she thought they’d always be a sub. “There are several ways to keep them safe. The ones without a Dom can have different colored collars. For instance, if they just wanted to watch and not participate, they’d wear a white one. If they did want to find a Dom or play, you’d put whatever other color you choose. If a sub decides partway through a night she changed her mind, she’d have to come to one of you, and you’d put the collar on she wanted. Both colors represent you guys, so no one would dare mess with them.”
“Another great idea. I know I just met you a few minutes ago,” Jake said. “But I’m guessing you’re a sub?”
She swallowed and pressed a hand to her stomach. “Oh, well.” She glanced up at Macy and saw a gentle smile but looked away and down quickly. “I used to be,” she murmured, glancing back up at Macy. “But I’m not anymore.”
“Can you tell us why?” Macy asked softly.
There was no way in hell she’d tell them what happened to her. “It’s just … I’ve just not had good experiences, so putting myself in a vulnerable position is hard. I feel like I have to be strong.”
“But I’ve found that subs are some of the strongest people I’ve ever met,” Macy said.
“I used to be. But not anymore. Are there any other questions you have?”
The men shook their heads.
Her shoulders relaxed. “All right. I’ll get to work.”
Caden said, “Go ahead, and thank you for the ideas.”
She felt their eyes follow her. She let down her guard when she was out of sight and took a deep breath. Cat hoped they had no other questions because it brought up some good and bad memories she’d like to keep repressed. Some things were better forgotten than to dwell over.
Chapter Four
Macy watched her leave and wanted to stop her and find out what had happened to change her lifestyle. It had to have been something deep because the woman was a natural submissive, but he could tell she was having a hard time not showing it.
“Oh, hell.”
Macy turned to see all three of the guys grinning at him. “What?”
“Another one bites the dust,” Caden said. “I was hoping for a chance at her, but that’s out of the question now.”
“Why?” Macy asked.
“She seemed to gravitate to you, and her gaze stayed on you the majority of the time,” Jake said.
Macy turned to look at the doorway she’d walked through. He had been so busy studying her expressions that he hadn’t caught the attention she was giving him.
“She’s beautiful,” Link said. “And as sweet as can be.”
Macy nodded. “Yes.”
“And she’s yours if you want her,” Caden said.
“My body definitely wants her, but so much is happening in our lives. I won’t have time to give a woman the attention she deserves.”
“I think if it’s meant to be, you’ll find the time,” Jake said. “Get to know her. I wish she’d looked at me like she did you. I’d take her in a minute.”
The other two friends nodded and agreed.
Macy nodded. “We’ll see. Let’s get back to it.”
One thing or another popped up throughout the day, and it was afternoon when he finally got a chance to check on Cat. He thought he’d have a heart attack when he entered the room. The woman was on a tall ladder painting in the room’s corners. She didn’t seem to think anything of leaning over to reach a spot instead of moving the whole damn ladder. Fuck, how’d she even get the ladder up there? The damn thing weighed as much as she did.
He walked carefully behind her because he didn’t want to scare her when he talked and have her fall. He reached up and grasped her hips. “Little Sub, I need you to get down off that ladder carefully. I’m right behind you.” His breath caught in his throat when she jerked even though he talked softly.
