He pressed his lips to the top of her head. “I’m sorry.” He looked at Kane. “What will they do if she doesn’t go back?”
Kane shrugged. “I hate to tell you that he might get off without witnesses. His lawyer says it was an unlawful entry and went against the Fourth Amendment—that kind of shit.”
Cat tugged on his sleeve. “Macy?”
“What, Baby?”
“I want to go,” she said. She turned to the guys behind them when they all started disagreeing. “You guys, I want this chance to ask him questions. This is my only chance at closure. Plus, at least one of you will be there.”
“We all will,” Link said.
Macy sighed and looked at Kane. “When do we have to be there?”
“As soon as you can,” Kane said.
“We’ll figure something out and call you on the way,” Macy said.
Kane stood. “Good. I’ll call the lawyer. May I have one more hug?”
Three no’s, but Macy said yes. She walked over and hugged Kane. “Thank you for taking care of me all those times.”
“It was my pleasure, but it broke my heart when you hurt.”
“I’m about to break something,” Jake mumbled.
Cat gasped.
Kane chuckled. “It’s okay. I’ll see you at the lawyer’s.”
Macy walked him out of the building and shook his hand. “We’ll see you soon.”
Kane got to his car, turned, and grinned. “It’s going to be interesting having you four huge overprotective men with her, and I’m guessing they tease her a lot?”
“You have no idea.”
Kane laughed and got in his car before Macy went back in.
He sighed when he got to the office to see Cat kick Jake.
“Hey.” They all stopped when he yelled. “Stop fighting. We need to make a plan.”
He sat down and pulled Cat back onto his lap. It took over an hour to finish an itinerary for the trips and get them plane tickets. They planned to go on Sunday. If this continued for over five days, Macy and Caden would stay with her, and the other two would return to the club.
Macy dreaded the day he came face to face with the monster, and he wouldn’t be able to kill him. Now, he had to keep the other three in line, too.
Chapter Twenty-Three
The District Attorney and Maximus made a deal that would prevent her from sitting on the stand and talking about the torture.
The guys were all relieved, especially her Dom. They wanted to head back right away, but she had one more thing to do, and it was to face Maximus. It took a while to convince Macy. Fortunately, the others weren’t in the room, and they were able to sneak out of the hotel and drive to the prison.
Her heart started to pulsate as the first gate to the prison opened with a screech. She could feel herself shaking, but all she had to do was look at Macy, and she calmed.
Macy took her hand, and they went through the process of getting a visitation with Maximus. It took a lot longer than she thought, but they were finally led into a room with rectangular tables. The inmates sat on one side and the visitors on the other. Several of the tables were already taken.
“I’ll stand back here,” Macy said.
She nodded, sat, and waited.
