When they got to the construction site, Macy could tell the other three partners were there because of the trucks.

“Let’s go, Baby.” He held her hand and had the sacks of breakfast sandwiches and juice in his other arm. When they entered the building, he’d hand out a few to each man he saw. They were all on different levels, so it took a bit to find them.

“Let’s go check out our place since we’re on the floor,” he said.

“All right.”

He watched her look around while he set the rest of the sandwiches and juice on the island they had in their condo. The place was going to turn out better than he thought it would.

“Come and eat, Baby.”

She walked over and stood before unwrapping her sandwich. She took tiny bites, and he had his first one down in three bites.

“Oh, my, God. You just shoved that in your mouth. Can you even taste it when your mouth is so full?” she asked.

He chuckled and drank one of the bottles of juice they bought before he unwrapped another sandwich.

She turned her head away from him. “I can’t even watch because it makes me want to gag.”

He grinned and continued eating. “I’m a growing boy.”

She snorted and walked off.

He wadded up all their wrappers and stuffed them back in the fast-food sack. When he found her, she was in the master bedroom. She had her arms around her waist as she stared out the window.

Macy walked over and wrapped his arms around her. “What’s wrong?”

She sighed.

“I think we need to stop talking about me being here and living with you. We don’t know each other enough to talk about living together.”

“Baby, I don’t have to wait. I’ve known since my first look at you that you were mine. I can’t explain it, but it just keeps getting stronger. What are you afraid of?”

“I’m scared that you’ll decide you don’t want me, and I’ll already be attached to you.”

He pressed his lips against hers. “I don’t know how to make you believe me. It’s just going to take time. You’ve got to trust your gut feeling. What does it tell you when you look at me, or I’m touching you?”

“I feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be. But we don’t kn—”

“Stop. Go with your gut. I am. Everything will fall into place. Just put your trust in me. I know it’s hard for you to do, and you have a good reason, but I’m still asking you to do it.”

She exhaled and nodded. “Okay.”

“Good. Do you have a lease on your apartment?” he asked.

She shook her head. “Yes, and it’s not up for five months.”

“I can take care of that.”

“All right.”

“Okay. We’ll get some guys to move us both in when this place is finished. I don’t have much stuff.”

“I don’t either. The furniture was in the place when I moved in.”

“The only furniture I’d bring is my bedroom set. It was something I bought a long time ago and kept in storage. Since moving here was the first time I’ve been able to use it.”

“It fits you. It’s big and strong.”
