“He used the maids for his sadist pleasure and games and always ended up killing them.”

Jesus, fuck. “How the hell was he able to get away with that?”

“Kane, the friend I told you about, found out Maximus had some high-ranking government officials in his pocket. He’s guessing the fucker was blackmailing them or something. He also suspected he hired women alone without family so no one would look for them.”

“How old is he?”

“Over double her age,” Daniel told him.

Fuck, it only got worse. “How was she able to survive for so many years?”

“We’re not sure. Kane told me she had scars all over her body from the bastard. We guessed she might have been special to him for some reason. She won’t talk about her time there, but it must have been a nightmare. She’s incredibly strong, too.”

“Yes, she is,” Macy said.

“What are your intentions with her?”

Macy smirked.

Daniel chuckled. “Yeah, I know I sound like a father, but she has very few people that care about her.”

“I’m going to become the most important person in her life, and I’ll do whatever it takes to make her happy.”

“You might consider the fact that she might not be able to have sex. She had to have been raped numerous times.”

Macy cringed inside. Fuck, he wanted the man that hurt her, in the ground. He’d just have to find a way to do it without getting caught. “I’m guessing that, too, but I guarantee she’ll be happy and be able to eventually have sex.”

Daniel snorted. “I forgot for a second that you’re a Dom. A cocky one, but probably a good one.”

“I’ve got a lot of years of practice. I can tell you she already trusted me enough to shower while I was at her place, and I’ve gotten a few kisses.”

Daniel’s eyes widened. “Jesus. If you can make that happen quickly, my money’s on you.”

Macy chuckled. “Always put your money on me, Sheriff. Just ask my friends.”

Daniel snorted and then laughed. “I’ll remember that.”

“Hey, Nick and Janessa are having a party on Friday, and I know they’d want you there. It will be good for Cat to see a face she knows, and you can see how she’s doing.”

“I’ll be there. I love their parties. You guys are livening up our town between that and your club.”

“I hope you’re okay with that?”

Daniel snorted. “Like I had a choice, but yes, I’m fine with it. As long as it doesn’t bring bad people to the town.”

Macy shook the man’s hand. “I can’t guarantee it, but the guys and I will do our best to keep those kinds of people away.”

“I know you will,” Daniel said. “Have a good day.”

“You, too.” Macy pulled over to the side of the road a few miles before the club. He needed some time to control his fury before seeing Cat. He’d never felt so pissed in his whole life, and he’d do whatever it took to take the bastard that hurt her down. And make him pay for everything he’d done to her.

Chapter Nine

Macy walked into the room they’d been working on to see if she’d finished it. It was done and looked great. He tracked her down until he found her in the back room washing out the brushes.

He came up behind her and set his hands on the sink in front of her, boxing her in without touching her. She stiffened but relaxed when she knew it was him. “I’m back.”

She cleared her throat. “Yes, I see that. Is there a reason you’re squashing me?”
