Chapter fourteen

Soul Ties

Dante

Afteraneveningofintense passion, Ally and I lay in bed, our bodies entwined in a tangle of limbs and sheets. We're both exhausted but satisfied, our breathing slowly returning to normal.

"Are you hungry?" I ask, running my fingers through her hair.

She nods, her eyes still closed. "Yeah, I am."

I get up from the bed, stretching my muscles as I make my way to the kitchen. Ally follows me, her hand in mine.

"What do you want to eat?" I ask her, opening the fridge.

She shrugs. "I don't know. What do you have?"

I pull out some vegetables and meat, and Ally helps me chop them up. As we cook together, we talk about how different foods can affect human neurology.

"For example, certain amino acids found in meat can affect the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine," I explain, stirring the vegetables in the pan.

Ally looks at me with interest. "Really? I had no idea."

I nod. "Yeah, it's fascinating how everything we eat can have an impact on our brain chemistry. Even things like caffeine and sugar can affect our mood and behavior."

As we cook, our conversation flows easily, and we both find ourselves getting more and more invested in the topic. We try out different spices and ingredients, experimenting with different flavors and textures. Finally, the food is ready, and we sit down in the living room to watch a movie. We settle on a romance film, and Ally snuggles closer to me as we watch.

The film is about a young couple who fall in love despite the odds being stacked against them. They face challenges and obstacles, but in the end, their love triumphs. As we watch, I can feel Ally's hand in mine, her fingers tracing patterns over my skin. We both get lost in the story, rooting for the couple and hoping for their happy ending.

After the movie, we sit in silence for a few moments, both lost in our own thoughts. Finally, Ally breaks the silence.

"That was a really good movie," she says, turning to me.

I smile. "Yeah, it was. I'm glad we watched it together."

She nods, her eyes searching mine. "You know, I'm really happy right now. I feel like I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be."

I take her hand in mine, squeezing it gently. "I feel the same way. Being with you just feels...right."

We sit there in silence for a few more moments, both lost in our own thoughts. But eventually, the silence becomes too much, and I break it.

"Ally, you are the one for me. I want to marry you and make a family". I say, my life seems in a perfect place.

"What do you say?" I ask her, my voice soft.

She looks at me, her eyes filled with emotion. "Actually, there is something I wanted to talk to you about."

I nod, waiting for her to continue.

"It's about us," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. "I know we've only been seeing each other in secret, but I feel like I'm falling for you. Hard. And I want the whole world to know about us."

My heart skips a beat at her words. "Ally, I think about you all the time and I would be here for you always." She nods, a small smile on her lips. "Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I just don't want to be in the corner, you know? I want to make sure that we're both ready for this and let the world know we are together.”

I take her hand in mine, squeezing it gently. "I understand. And I promise, I'll never do anything to hurt you. I just want to make you happy."

She leans in, kissing me softly. "You already do, Dante. You make me so happy."

We spend the rest of the night talking, sharing stories and dreams, and discovering more about each other. It's amazing how much we have in common and how we both share the same values and beliefs. Ally seems happy when I brought up marriage, but I sense and understand her anxiety. Our careers and my family could stand between us, but when I see us together, I know that we can overcome anything.
