My head snapped over to the doors, and there she was.

Greer was ready toplay.

She was in black leggings, a Voyagers tank top that hugged her chest, her hair braided back off her face, a blue-ish green ribbon threaded through the ends of the braid, and a gleam in her eye as she looked around that should have terrified anyone meant to line up against her.

Me.

It terrifiedme.

“I didn’t tell her about it,” I said under my breath. “I figured she had to work.”

Parker sighed. “Yeah, my sisters have an annoying habit of finding out about everything, whether I want them to or not.”

I thought about the family event that started this entire thing, and I couldn’t help but laugh.

With a nudge to Parker’s back, I walked over to where she waited with a serene, infinitely patient smile on her face. Her hands were tucked behind her back, and I scratched the side of my face when I was in front of her.

“Didn’t expect to see you here,” I said.

Her eyes did that gleaming thing again. It wasn’t so scary this time. “Apparently not.”

I winced, looking out at all the other wives and girlfriends running warm-ups on a different side of the field. “I’m not really used to … having people in my life who can join me for this stuff. I guess I didn’t think about it.”

Greer smiled. “I think we can cut each other some slack,” she said easily. “Less than a week with a spouse means we both have some things to get used to.”

I exhaled heavily. “Indeed we do.”

Her eyes lingered over mine. “You did manage to think about setting up the coffee for me, though. I appreciate you making enough for both of us.”

I cleared my throat, glancing down at my shoes. “Yeah, no problem.”

There was no way I was admitting it now.

Greer leaned in, and when I caught a whiff of something clean and fresh and soft, my stomach tightened. “So … what’s the setup here? Do I get to pick my team?”

I shook my head, trying not to breathe in too deeply. “Offensive SO’s play with the defensive players. Defensive SO’s line up with the offense.”

“SO’s?” she asked.

“Significant others,” I told her.

“Ahh.” She stretched her arm out over her head and groaned. “Perfect. That means we get to start our marriage with me kicking your ass.”

My eyebrows arched slowly. “You think so?”

Greer waltzed past, her shoulder brushing mine as she did, and she gave me a searing look over her shoulder. “I don’t think so, Coleman. I know it.”

I blew out a harsh breath and tried very hard not to stare at my wife’s ass as I followed her over to line up.

“Please let me help you,” I said, my eyes covered because that’s what she’d asked of me.

“Nope.” She grunted. The sound of something sliding up the stairs at a glacial pace had me clenching my jaw. “I don’t want to ruin the surprise.” Another grunt. “Ahh, there. Got it,” she said through gritted teeth.

It didn’t take long for me to realize that Greer Wilder did not know how to sit still. The moment she walked through my front doors and deposited her stuff into the guest room, she got to work.
