“Yeah?”
“I miss you.”
He chuckles and the sound stirs something inside me. “I miss you too, Rookie,” he says. “I’ll see you soon.”
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
Brady
“WAS THAT WREN?” FELICITY’Svoice startles me from my thoughts. I glance over my shoulder to where she’s leaning against her kitchen bench sipping on her coffee, concern coating her honey eyes. “Is everything okay?”
I shake my head, stretching as I get off her couch. “It’s Ivy. Wren said she’s not in a good way.”
“Lachy still refusing to talk to her?”
I rub the back of my neck. “Yeah, or anyone.”
I feel bad that I haven’t been there for my sister. I want to be there for Jordan but the fact that this is the fourth night in a week that I’ve ended up on Felicity’s couch after he hooks up with her housemate, I’m starting to wonder if I’m even helping. Although the black eye I’m sporting is probably better than what could have happened to him when he ran his mouth at Conrad Foster last night.
“How’s the eye?” Felicity asks, as if she can read my mind.
I wince as I prod at it. “Sore.”
“What was with that guy anyway?”
“It’s a long story.”
I pick up my keys but hesitate. I’m torn. I need to get to Ivy, but Jordan’s still spiralling.
Felicity gently prods me with her foot. “Go. I’ll make sure he doesn’t do anything stupid while you’re gone.”
I shoot her a grateful look and shimmy into my jeans after I retrieve them from the floor. “Thanks for everything, Flick,” I say as I head for the front door.
“Yeah, yeah.” She grins.
I’m pulling on one of my sneakers when the door to Jemima’s room opens. I smile at her.
