I shoot her a filthy look and let out a growl. “Too soon.”
“Sorry, not sorry,” Felicity laughs with a shrug of her shoulders.
I roll my eyes. Everyone’s a fucking joker.
I drop the three of them off at Felicity and Jem’s apartment, making plans to catch up with Jordan for a surf in the morning, then drive back to Wren’s.
I yawn as I type in the security code on the front entrance. My tired eyes reflect back at me in the elevator doors. Something tells me that this beef with Conrad isn’t going away. Harley’s playing with fire. But right now, all I can think about is climbing into bed with my girl.
I use the spare key to let myself into the silent apartment. The soft light from the bedside lamp is still on, but Wren has fallen asleep, her blonde hair spread over the pillow. She’s so fucking beautiful it hurts. I unzip my jeans and pull them off, tossing them over her desk chair along with my sweatshirt and long-sleeved tee. Down to only my boxers, I climb into bed, sliding my arm under her and pulling her close.
She rolls over and presses her warm lips to my skin. “Everything okay?” she mumbles sleepily without even opening her eyes.
I push all thoughts of our friend’s drama out of my mind and sigh. “Yeah. Everything’s fine.”
“Good,” she whispers as her fingers trace their way down my chest and tease under the elastic of my boxers.
“Are you trying to seduce me, Rookie?” I rumble, tilting her head so that I can capture her lips with mine.
“Is it working?” she grins against my lips.
I suck in a hiss as her warm hands wrap around my engorged flesh. “What do you think?”
“I think I love you, Brady Willis.”
“I think I love you, too, Wren Murphy.”
JORDAN’S QUIETER THANusual as we ride the waves. I try to draw him out but it’s like he’s on another planet..
“Jem finally come to her senses?” I finally ask as we sit on our boards bobbing in the ocean in time with the waves.
Jordan gives me a scathing look. “What makes you say that?”
I shrug. “You’ve been distracted all morning.”
He presses his lips together. “It’s not Jem.”
“So...” I prompt. “What is it then?”
Jordan slaps his hand through the water. “Dad’s selling up. He’s moving back to Salerno.”
“What?” My mouth drops open when Jordan nods.
“It’s too hard for him here, now that mum’s gone.”
“What about you? And Lachy.”
“I’m staying.” Jordan avoids my gaze, laying down on his board and turning toward shore to paddle back in.
I sigh in relief, but then I realise he hasn’t answered the second part of my question. “And Lachy?” I call out, dropping onto my stomach and angling my board to follow him. “Jordan! What about Lachy?”
My arms burn as I paddle hard to catch up to him. He had a head start and the waves are pushing him back toward the beach.
“Jordan...”
“Lachy’s going with Dad,” he mutters.
Fuck. I run a hand through my hair.Ivy’s going to be gutted by this.“Why?”
