Felicity glances up at me in surprise. “I thought you were hoping to get back together with Wren.”
“I am,” I say. “I don’t know. I guess I’m just jealous of the fact that they don’t give a fuck. They’re both just doing whatever they want.”
“I’ll admit I’m a little bit confused,” Felicity says with a laugh, nudging me. “It’s just sex with them. If I know anything about you from our party chats, that’s not you. You’re searching for connection. Case in point.” She nods at Wren who is casting furtive glances at us. “I know she says she just wants to be friends, but I’d bet she still cares deeply about you.”
“I don’t think your girlfriend would be impressed with you putting her life on the line like that,” I say wryly.
“Watch this space,” Felicity says with a shrug.
CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE
Wren
“THEY SEEM CLOSE,” Icomment to Harley as we walk to Patty’s after mini golf.
He glances over his shoulder to where Brady and Felicity are walking a few feet behind us. “They’re just friends,” he tells me, wrapping his arm around my shoulder and giving me a squeeze.
“They look more than friendly,” I mutter.
He smirks down at me. “Jealous?”
I scowl, elbowing him in the ribs. “No. Just making an observation.”
Harley chuckles as he rubs the spot I connected with. “You’ve got nothing to worry about.”
“What makes you so sure?” I ask, casting another quick glance over my shoulder. Airlie’s cousin throws her head back in laughter at something Brady said and places her hand on his bicep. I try to push down the jealousy rising up in the pit of my stomach. Brady looks happy. I can’t begrudge him that.
“I don’t think her girlfriend is too worried.” My face heats up. Harley bends down so his mouth is just below my ear. “You know, if you still want to be with him, just tell him.”
I shake my head. “You know it’s not as simple as that.”
He grimaces. “I’m sorry, Wren.”
I shrug and quicken my pace to catch up to Ivy, linking my arm in hers. I need to push Brady from my mind. It’s Ivy’s birthday, so I’m going to focus on making sure she has a good night.
Patty’s is more packed than usual for a Thursday night due to the surf carnival taking place this weekend. It makes my heart ache a little watching Brady chat with a few of the male surfers in town for the event. I know how much he wanted to make it to the pro’s. At least until everything went down with his dad. While the scandal blew over quite quickly, Brady didn’t want it rehashed every time he competed.
