He’s not normal. And he’s not just your boss or Russ. He is our mate. Your husband.
It was the first time her wolf had spoken to her since she had come to.
Glad to see you’re back,Gia thought.
Uh-uh. No, you’re not. But get used to it. And get used to our mate being by our side.
Gia didn’t bother to answer. She had a lot to think about but now wasn’t the time. “There’s a car behind us. A blacked-out, angry-looking SUV,” Gia warned Russ.
“Fuck. How many of these fuckers did he send?” Russ growled, slamming the gas pedal down. “It’s like six miles to the airport, where I have a private jet waiting for us. If we can just get there, we’ll be home in no time, and I’ll have a security team waiting for us until I can draw Damon out into the open.”
“Okay. What can I do to help?” she asked, not wanting to feel useless.
“Use my phone to call Colton. Tell him about the others behind us. I don’t want those fuckers opening fire. He has his wife and baby son in that car.”
Gia gulped. She didn’t disagree with Russ. She wouldn’t be able to live with herself if something happened to a baby because of them. Grabbing his cell phone from the console of the SUV, she scrolled through his phone until she found Colton’s phone number.
“Hi, Colton, this is Gia. Uhh … I’m with Russ.”
“Tell them to give the guard at the gate my name.”
“Did you hear that?” she asked.
“Yes. I heard. I don’t like leaving you behind. It doesn’t sit right in my stomach,” Colton said.
“Look. We will be fine. You get that baby of yours to a safe place. That’s what is most important right now. We will be fine. Okay?” Gia didn’t leave any room for negotiation in her voice. “We’ll be right behind you. Go now,” she ordered.
“Fine, but I don’t like it one bit,” Colton said and disconnected the call.
Seconds later, Gia’s heart raced as the car ahead of them sped away. “Don’t slow down. Keep going,” she breathed in a prayer.
“I’m glad he listened. I can’t see a young family putting themselves in danger for me, for us. I’m sorry, beautiful. I know that puts us in more danger, but sometimes, it’s worth it.”
“It is. Like I told Colton, we will be fine. My wolf is back. My strength is coming back. If we have to get out and rip their damn throats out, you bet your ass we will. I am so done with this sort of shit,” she growled.

Russ had never once heardGia threaten anyone like she just did. Fuck, it was sexier than all get-out. Was he going to hell for how much it turned him on?
He’d have to shelve that for later. The SUV behind them sped up, trying to smash into his rear end, but he zigged just as the men made their move. Swerving into the lane next to him, Russ yelled, “Hang on, babe. I’m going to try to get away.”
Gia grabbed the handle above her head and held on. “Do you want me to call 911 and tell them there’s a drunk driver behind us?” she asked.
Russ scanned the area and saw a police cruiser at the light in front of them. “No need. Look,” he said, motioning to the cop at the corner. He slowed down. “I’m going to let them hit us. Brace yourself.” He hoped this panned out. His vehicle was a Cadillac Escalade, so it should be able to take a hit from the smaller SUV.
“Let me put my seat back some in case the airbags come out.” She pressed the button and chanted a hurry up to the seat.
“Okay. I’m as ready as I’ll ever be.”
This was not the most optimal plan, but it was the only one he had to get these guys off his ass. He just hoped his mate wasn’t hurt by this stunt and they could still drive to the airport.
“Here goes, nothing,” Russ said. He slowed down as he approached the stoplight.
The SUV behind them immediately slammed into him and sent his car flying through the intersection right in front of the cop. Damn, he was glad no one was coming through the light at that second.
The patrol car’s lights came on instantly. Russ pulled to the side of the road. The SUV behind them had smoke coming from the hood, and it was dead in the middle of the intersection. The doors opened, and the men jumped out and ran.
“Are you okay?” he asked Gia.
