I hear Sierra and Kason talking, but I am unable to make out what they’re saying with the fog in my head. I’m completely zoned in on Leo. He’s a little older, obviously, but he is even more handsome if that’s possible. I thought he was an Adonis before, but I can’t find the right words to describe him now. There’s a bit more scruff on his face, and he wears it well.
Of course he does, that bastard.
His eyes—Riley’s eyes—stare at me with cold malice.
I remember the harsh words he said about Riley and me to Sierra. How we fucked up his life. “Hello, Leo. I’d like to say it’s good to see you again, but it really isn’t.”
When I take a sip of my drink, he has the nerve to smirk at me. “I see you’re enjoying a drink. You planning to get back at your boyfriend and fuck someone else tonight? ’Cause I must say…” he scans my body, clearly liking what he sees, “… you’re still one sexy woman, and given the right incentive, I may be willing to help you out with that.”
How dare he? How fucking dare he?
If it’s a war of words he wants, he damn sure will get them from me.
Game on. Game fucking on.
I give him my sweetest smile. “Sorry, but I don’t sleep with irresponsible fuck boys anymore. I’m much more discerning with who I have sex with now. I like my men to appreciate quality over quantity and not be fuck boys with disease-riddled cocks. Speaking of, I hope you’re keeping up with your STD checks. That burn you feel when you piss could be a concern.”
Leo’s face goes red with anger. Sierra and Kason are still talking, maybe even arguing, but I can’t pull myself away from my sparring with Leo.
He gives me a mischievous smile. “It was just an offer, and I said Imaybe willing to help you out, not that I would. My tastes seem to have changed since we last fucked as well. I like my women a little more…” he pauses for effect, “…satisfying. I get better than you on the daily.”
The asshole smirks and winks at me.
Now I see red.
Throwing my drink in his face, he shoots back into his seat in shock, his mouth gaping open. Pulling on my arm, Sierra drags me away from him.
“Fuck you, Leo. And just in case you’re curious, Riley is amazing and the most important person in my world. Your loss, you asshole.” A yank on my arm forces me away from him and ushers me out of the club.
Ha. Take that last jab, asshole.Sierra is mad too, but not solely at Leo.
I guess both our nights have been ruined by the arrogant Leo Knight.
* * *
After the awful night, we’ve had a better day, but I’ve still got Leo on my mind. Sierra and Kason exchanged heated words too. He didn’t like her choice of words for Leo, and she didn’t like what he thought of me.
Eventually, I recalled where I had heard Kason’s name. He and Leo are cousins, not friends. He was his cousin who was in his phone as Morgan. Kason Morgan. We had a huge fight because I thought Morgan was a girl he hooked up with while in New York. Leo forgave me after a little groveling and a blow job in the shower.
Sierra said it was better that she knew the real Kason now than later. Apparently, he only knows me as the woman who broke Leo’s heart. Still, I hate that they fought because of me. He’s been texting her all day and even tried calling, so maybe there’s hope for them.
But she has been ignoring him.
Then again, maybe not.
Mom, Tony, and Mark arrived today and brought me my little angel, Riley. I’m so happy to have her with me again. I hugged her for a long time, not wanting to let her go. As much as I love her, I gave her the worst father in the world, and my heart aches at the acknowledgment. He didn’t even ask about her. What he said in the bar last night about finding women who satisfy him daily hurt. He meant it to hurt. He knew how I felt about that when we were together, and he used it against me.
We’re sitting on Sierra’s sofa in our pajamas, eating popcorn and watchingBeauty and the Beastwhen we hear a knock on the door. Sierra gets up to answer it, and I hear Kason’s voice.
“Why the fuck have you been ignoring me?”
Riley’s big eyes snap to me. “He said a bad word, Mommy.”
Yes, he did, and that’s my cue to get her out of the living room and to the spare room we’re staying in to avoid her hearing any more swear words.
Unfortunately, we must pass by the door to the hallway that leads there.
Taking Riley’s hand, I proceed to creep us past the door.
