Page 52 of Worth the Risk

Maybe Kason is a good person to talk to about this. He is a relationship guy.

“I met a girl.”

His jaw drops. “You, Leo Knight, Mr. I-Don’t-Do-Relationships has met a girl? Has hell frozen over? Come to think of it, it is a bit chilly in here.” He crosses his arms over his chest and shivers as if he is cold.

I chuckle. Of course, he would have something to say about this.

“Yes. Her name is Kylie, and she’s amazing. Trust me when I tell you I’m just as shocked as you are.”

“She must be amazing if she’s tamed your wild ways. If you’re committing yourself to her, you’ll need to keep your dick in your pants. Are you willing to do that for her?”

“Yes,” I answer without hesitation. I’ve been fucking Kylie for weeks now. Instead of getting bored, I find myself wanting her more if that’s even possible.

Kason must see the honesty on my face and hear it in my voice. He nods and lifts a glass to toast. “Here’s to Kylie taming the untamable.” He laughs, and we clink glasses.

Speaking of relationships, I ask him, “How’s the witch?”

Kason takes the name in stride. I’ve been calling her that since she seems to have a magical spell on him. I can’t understand why he stays with someone so manipulative. He has to realize it but stays with her.

“It’s over. For good this time,” he insists, shocking me.

Has he finally had enough of her shit?

Hell has certainly frozen over.

“What happened?”

“I caught her in bed with my agent, of all people. She tried telling me she was… get this… trying to help me get better contracts with endorsements. Tried convincing me she did it for me.”

“What the fuck?” I exclaim. I knew she was manipulative, but I hadn’t expected that.

“It finally opened my eyes to her. Worst fucking part about it is that I’ve signed a long-term contract with him to represent me. I have to see his face when all I really want to do is punch him… again.”

“If you ask me, he did you a favor. Hate that you had to see that, but I’m sure that hit made you feel better.” I chuckle.

“It did. I rushed into the room, saw them mid-fuck, pulled him off her, and punched him. His naked ass went flying over the bed. As good as it felt, it sucks because I’m now stuck with him. He threatened to sue me for assault if I try to break our contract, so now I’m under his thumb.”

“Fuck, Kason. I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Don’t feel sorry for me. Like I said, it opened my eyes. I seem to have picked up where you left off, and I’m far from lonely,” he says, clinking his glass with mine again.

Funny enough, I don’t miss those days of random hookups. Not with Kylie in my life.

We finish dinner and say goodbye before I head home. The elevator doors open directly into the penthouse apartment. Going through the foyer, I head into the living room, where Dad is enjoying a baseball game on television.

Sitting next to him, he clears his throat before saying, “I was just talking with Sophie. She informed me you met a girl. Kylie, is it?”

I’ve been dreading this conversation with him. He worries about us ever since Mom left. She hurt him badly. Hell, she hurt all of us, and I hate her for it.

“I did, and yes, her name is Kylie.”

“Be careful, son. You know how women are. They tell you they love you, then leave.”

Dad wasn’t always cynical, but he can’t help feeling this way. He loved my mom desperately until the day she left and refused to see us again. They were always affectionate. A hug and a kiss between them were common in our home. I thought she loved him too. Instead, she took his money and left. Enough money to live the rest of her life in luxury without us.

“I know, Dad.” What else can I say? I understand why he feels this way.

“I’m thinking of stopping down to visit sometime soon. See how things are going.”
