“Things seem to be going well with your Adonis,” Sierra quips, air quoting the word ‘Adonis.’
Playfully smacking her arm, I ask, “Why did you tell him he was my Adonis?”
She laughs. “I didn’t. I told you it was time to take your Adonis to bed, and you jumped into his arms while telling him your Adonis needed to take you to bed.”
I could see myself doing that.
“You never answered my question,” Sierra reminds me.
“Things are going very well. I’m falling fast for him. It’s scary and amazing at the same time.”
“I’ve never seen my brother like this before. All attentive and affectionate. But please bear in mind what I said about his heart,” she reminds me.
“Why is he so guarded, Sophie?”
“It’s best if he tells you.” Her tone informs me I’ll be getting no further information from her.
Taking myself off the hot seat, I ask her, “So, you and Nash?”
She stills. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I don’t believe her for a second. “I saw the looks you were giving him last night.”
“She’s got it bad for him,” Amber jumps in.
“Shush, Amber.” Sophie smacks Amber’s arm. “Truth is, I’ve been crushing on him since Leo brought him home from school. I don’t think Leo would like it, though. He can be a bit protective of me. Lately, I thought Nash might have been feeling the same way, but I was wrong. I kissed him, and for a hot minute, he kissed me in return, but then he pulled away and left after saying he shouldn’t have done that,” she confesses with a sigh.
“I noticed him staring at you last night too. Maybe it’s what you said earlier about Leo. You did say he was protective of you,” Sierra suggests.
“Maybe I can talk to Leo about it,” I offer.
“Thanks, Kylie, but please don’t. Unless I know for sure there’s something going on, I don’t want Leo to know.”
“Of course,” I agree in understanding.
Changing the subject, we talk about the bonfire at the beach we’re going to tonight.
Leo told me earlier this week he’s leaving on Sunday to go to their New York office and he’d be back by the weekend, so after tonight, we won’t see each other for almost a week. I’m unhappy, but what could I say? It’s his work, and he’ll be spending time with his dad and sister. He didn’t mention his mother. I’m growing more curious about her as time goes on. Once again, I wonder what happened with her.

Leo
As Kylie is having fun with a group of friends, I can’t take my eyes off her. I’m obsessed with her.
Finishing my beer, I excuse myself before heading to the coolers for another. When I twist off the top and take a swig, someone creeps up behind me.
“Hey, handsome. We meet again.” I shift on my feet.
Fuck. It’s Liz.
“Hello, Liz.”Why did I ever hook up with this girl? She seems to be everywhere I go. I even spotted her the other week at the Hanover House as we were leaving.
“I noticed you’re spending time with Kylie.”
At the mention of Kylie’s name, I shift my gaze over to her. She’s not looking my way, but Sierra is, and she’s not happy.
“Yes, I am, and I’m going to her now. See you around.”
