Page 36 of Worth the Risk

Like I said… bitch.

Leo must sense my inner turmoil. “Something wrong?”

“Did she even see me with you?”

“She was just being nice,” he asserts as if it’s not a big deal.

He can’t be that ignorant. He has to notice she was flirting with him in front of me.

“It was rude. You might see it as friendly, but to me, it was disrespectful.”

He laughs. “Someone feeling possessive already?”

Am I? I could be. I didn’t like it.

“As I said, it was disrespectful.”

Shaking his head, he chuckles as if I’m being silly.

Just then, the waiter arrives at our table. He’s around my age.And he’s cute.

I’m going to have a little fun.

Good for the goose and all that.

“Would you like to order your drinks?” the waiter asks Leo.

“I’ll have a double bourbon, neat.”

After jotting down his order, his focus shifts to me. I smile at him, hopeful it comes off as flirtatious.

He is taken aback for a moment. “And… um… for you, miss?”

“What would you recommend?” I ask, keeping my voice soft andfriendly.

He stares at me for a moment before smiling big.

Score.

“She’ll have a strawberry daiquiri.” Leo growls from the other side of the table.

“Yes, sir,” our waiter replies before scurrying off.

Leo grumbles. “I’ll be right back.”

Not so happy anymore, he heads off in the direction of the bar. When he disappears, I take a moment and drink in my surroundings. The lounge is dimly lit with overhead lighting, and candles sit on the tables. Toward the back is a small stage, where a man is playing a piano and singing about a lost love. I’ve heard the song before but can’t place the name. There’s a small dance floor in the front, where couples dance.

When Leo comes back, he seems marginally better. At least he lost his scowl.

Sliding back into the booth, he fixes his gaze on me. “I know what you were doing.”

I fake innocence. “What was I doing?”

“You were paying me back for the hostess. I don’t like it, Kylie.”

“Funnily enough, Leo, I didn’t appreciate it either.”

He has no comeback for that.
