Nash takes my distraction as his chance to make a getaway.
That’s okay. I’ll talk to him later. He’s not getting away that fast.
Joining Amber downstairs, I observe her, trying to gauge if she’s okay. I’ve watched scary news stories of women being assaulted when going home with someone they just met, and I want to be sure nothing awful happened to her.
“Are you okay?” I ask.
She furrows her brows in question but eventually realizes I’m asking about her well-being.
“I’m fine. No need to worry,” she says with a smile and a wave of her hand.
I guess I’ll just have to take her word for it.
“Okay, but if you need to talk about anything, I hope you know you can talk to me.”
Seriously, I need to stop watchingDiscovery I.D. My mind goes to all kinds of terrible scenarios.
“I assure you, I’m fine,” she insists.
“Okay. Then I’m going back to bed. I’ll see you later.”
“See you,” she replies as I head back down the hallway to the bedroom and crawl under the covers with Leo.

A few hours later, we’re outside lounging around the pool. Sierra went home earlier, so it’s just Leo, Nash, Sophie, Amber, and me. There have been no interactions between Sophie and Nash, and they’ve not spoken or acknowledged each other the whole time we’ve been outside. No one would ever think Nash spent the night in her room or that they even knew each other.
Something weird is going on.
“Leo, I’m heading back to the city this evening,” Sophie informs him.
Nash gives her a curious look, and Amber is surprised for some reason, but they don’t question her.
“Okay. Be sure to text me when you get there so I know you got home safe,” Leo says.
She rolls her eyes. “Yes, I’ll do that.”
Something is going on with Sophie. She hasn’t been her chirpy self. I make it a point to corner her before she leaves. We’ve become close, and I care about her.
Sophie stands to hurry inside, telling us she’s going to pack.
“Dad,” she squeals loudly. We all see Sophie hugging an older man. His arms are wrapped around her, and he’s kissing her head like Leo always does to me.
After releasing Sophie, he hugs Leo and shakes Nash’s hand. Amber joins them and gives Leo’s dad a friendly hello. They talk for a bit, although I can’t make out what they’re saying. I only watch, not sure what I should do.
Sophie says something and goes inside before Leo waves me over. This is not the way I wanted to meet my boyfriend’s father, dressed in a bikini. I’m hoping the ground will open and swallow me whole before I make it there.
No such luck.
“Dad, this is Kylie. Kylie, this is my dad, Connor,” Leo says.
“Hello, Mr. Knight,” I greet him, sticking my hand out.
“Hello, Kylie.” He shakes my hand and releases it while looking between Leo and me.
“I thought I’d come for a visit. I’m about to head to the casino. Then I was hoping we might have dinner.”
“Of course,” Leo replies before addressing me. “Will you come with us tonight, Kylie?”
