“Of course. We have a house there now. We will visit as often as you like.”
“Youhave a house there now,” she clarifies.
I don’t see it that way. It will be her house one day too, but I’ll wait to throw that on her. I plan to make her my wife when this is all over. I want to grow our family, and I want to see her pregnant with my babies too.
I wonder how she would feel about that, us having more children.I almost ask her, but I only just asked her to move in with me, so that conversation can wait for another day.
Cupping her cheeks, I kiss her. This woman right here is mine, Riley is mine, and come hell or high water, we won’t stop until those who wronged us are crucified.
ChapterForty-Three
Kylie
It’s been two weeks since we officially moved in together. I was giddy with happiness when Leo asked for us to move in. I gave my notice to the school, and I’m working with Sierra at the outreach program. The schedule is flexible, and we’ll need that with taking care of Riley.
Nash has been working hard, and we’re blown away with what he’s uncovered. Apparently, Oliver has been skimming for a long time now, lining his own pockets. Although it seems like the worst times were over ten years ago when his greediness was at its worst. He was in a horrible car accident around that time.Could that have had something to do with it?
We’ve spent time with Connor, and he’s taking the news better than Leo expected. Leo worried it could emotionally wreck him, but Connor surprised us all. He’s a determined man who wants justice. We met with the authorities and turned over the evidence. Oliver will be charged, but not before we get to confront him with what we found out.
Sitting in a conference room at Knight Industries, we’re ready for battle. The gang is all here. Connor, Leo, Nash, Sophie, and I are here to end this once and for all.
Oliver enters with Amber trailing behind him, and they stop short in surprise when they see us sitting around the table. Connor asked them to be here under false pretenses.
“Connor, I thought you wanted to meet with just Amber and me?” he asks, clearly nervous.
“Take a seat. We have some matters to discuss with you both.” Connor points to the two empty chairs.
Although confused, they sit down. Oliver is concerned, and Amber stares at me with a mixture of fury and confusion.
The bitch is about to get what’s been a long time coming to her.
Connor clears his throat. “Oliver, we’ve been friends for many years, and I had given you my trust. It seems I’ve done so with blinders on. You betrayed me, and you will not do so for one moment longer.”
Oliver sits back in his chair. “I have no idea what you mean. I have served you and this company with loyalty all these years. I would never betray you. H-how can you say such a thing?” His words say one thing, but his guilty green eyes reveal that he’s worried.
Removing papers from a folder, Connor slides them to Oliver. He hesitantly reads over them, and with each line, he knows his time is up. Amber peers over his shoulder, trying to figure out what the papers are. By the furrow of her brows, she doesn’t have a clue. Oliver eventually lays the papers down in front of him.
“I… I can explain,” he stutters. “It’s not what you think.”
Rising from his chair, Connor straightens his arms, and places his fists on the table before leaning forward. His eyes thunderous, he snarls, “It’s not what I think? It isexactlywhat I think. You’ve made a fool of me for far too long. You stole money from my company. It’s there in black and white. It was one thing to fuck with my company, but then you fucked with my family.” He bangs his fist on the table. “I willnottolerate that. You and your scheming daughter worked together and kept me away from my granddaughter and Leo from his daughter for over four fucking years, Oliver. Time we’ll never get back. How dare you mess with my family like that? You will pay for this if it’s the last thing I do.”
I’ve never seen this angry side of Connor, but I like it.
Oliver is speechless. What can he say? He knows he’s been caught.
It’s Amber who speaks up. “I’ve done nothing wrong. I had no idea anything was going on.”
“The fuck you say?” Leo yells from beside me, making me jump. He’s been waiting to confront her. He let his dad have Oliver—that was Connor’s fight—but Amber belongs to us.
Amber sits back in her chair, affronted, and crosses her arms. “I said I had no idea this was going on. I didn’t steal any money.”
“Oh, but you certainly did play a role in breaking Leo and me up,” I say.
Ignoring the accusation, she points a finger to her chest and screeches, “I’m the one who’s always been there for him. It was me who was there for him when you were busy fucking his best friend behind his back.” She points her finger at Nash, who glares at her like he’d like to strangle her. She points at herself again. “He wantedme. He turned to me the night I showed him proof that you and Nash were still together.”
Leo jumps up from his chair. “You drugged me, you fucking conniving bitch. I would have never taken on your advances otherwise.”
She flies back in her chair, guilt written all over her face, but keeps quiet by biting on her lower lip.
