Jake had chosen not to relinquish the café, nor its day-today running, and he still spent a lot of time down there, cooking and talking to guests, and surfing when the weather was right. Jenny worked more hours, and he also had an extra waitress. As well, he’d undertaken to make cakes for the afternoon teas which would be available to guests at the hotel.
Slowly, she ran a tentative finger down his body, trailing it through the light smattering of blonde hairs on his chest, further and further down until it arrowed towards his groin. God, she loved this man! He was so relaxed and completely laissez-faire, and it did her more serious and organised side a world of good. Yet she knew she was good for him, too. They both benefitted.
Jake stirred and sighed, rolling towards her, and she could see he was already aroused. Her stomach flipped as she pulled him into her arms and kissed him, her mouth open to capture his tongue as her hands continued to explore him. Within seconds he was fully awake and responding. Their love-making was always amazing, always breathtaking. Emily straddled him and lowered herself onto him, her muscles clenching round him as he sucked in a breath and she saw his eyes fill with love and laughter.
‘You certainly know how to wake a man,’ he murmured, as his hands sought her breasts, Emily’s nipples puckered in response to his seeking fingers, and she arched back, beginning the slow rise and fall of her hips which she knew would drive them both mad and result in an explosive release.
Their breathing quickened. Emily leaned forwards to kiss Jake again before allowing her mouth to travel down to his own nipples, eliciting a gasp of pure pleasure from him as her tongue circled the tight brown nubs. From that moment, the impetus took them both over and within minutes each cried out, hands clutching, bodies arching, before collapsing in a panting heap, Jake’s arms round Emily’s now peaceful body.
‘I ever tell you I love you?’ Jake murmured into her hair, his arms tightening possessively.
‘A few times,’ Emily conceded.
They were six months on from the day she’d found him coughing and exhausted in the shallows. They never spoke of that day, nor the pain which had preceded it, even though it had only been for a few hours. Emily had learned that from Jake. What was in the past was left behind.
Lying in bed, with the sun spilling into the room, Emily stirred. ‘I need to get up and check everything’s okay. I’m so excited. We take in our first guests from Easter weekend, and we’ve the open day to run yet.’
Now the hotel was finished, they’d decided to throw the whole place open to the people who lived in Solhaven, even though Annie and her staff would then have to make sure the place was thoroughly cleaned again over the next two days, before their first guests arrived.
She saw Jake turn towards her and reach out to pull her closer. He gave her a quick kiss on her forehead. ‘Everything’s bound to be ready.’ He smiled at her and dropped a kiss onto her nose. ‘You’re so organised, you put me to shame.’
‘Yeah? Seems to me you run that café pretty well.’
‘Do you foresee any problems?’
‘None. Your Mum is a wonderful housekeeper, and we have some great staff.’
Throwing the covers back, Jake stood up, lean, muscled, utterly gorgeous. Sucking in her breath, Emily reached out for the part of his anatomy which was closest.
He smacked her hand away, grinning. ‘You’re insatiable. And you just told me you had to get up.’
Emily grinned back, feeling utterly relaxed and completely happy. She knew she owed this beloved man big time for changing her world.
‘I’m on it!’ In a flash, she was out of bed and ahead of him, reaching the bathroom seconds before he did, closing the door on his protests. Relenting, she opened it, and invited him in to share their shower.
Half an hour later, they stood arm in arm in the lovely black and white tiled hall, which now held a beautiful oak Victorian desk. Henry’s desk, which they’d bought at the auction, along with many other pieces which had been on sale.
Their first visitors from the village were arriving on the weeded and raked gravel.
The Haven House Hotel was officially open.
