She looks incredible with her dark hair curled over her shoulders and a flowy summer dress that highlights her figure. She might still have dark circles under her eyes, but she looks fresher than she did in the middle of the night. I hope that means she managed to get some rest.
“How are my girls doing?” she asks, lowering the tray to the table before us, then sitting in a chair opposite.
Calli beams at her with love filling her blue eyes. It’s obvious they have a special kind of connection. One I can only hope to find with the mother of the man I love.
“We’re okay, G,” Calli says, rubbing her belly once more.
“Evie?” she asks.
“Yeah, you know. Coffee helps.”
“Always. Make sure you eat too.” She pushes the tray closer, and I reach out to grab a plate full of waffles, fresh fruit, and whipped cream.
Unable to deny how good it looks or the way my stomach growls, I fill my fork with sweet goodness and moan when I get my first taste.
“You can make a good waffle, Calli.”
She blushes at my praise. “Jocelyn taught me everything I know,” she says with a smile.
“How’s she doing without having to dote on your mother twenty-four seven?” Gianna asks, giving me a clue as to who Jocelyn might be.
“Good. She’s too good a person to put up with that woman’s crap.”
“I’m sensing you didn’t get on with your mother,” I muse.
“That’s a story for another day. Let’s just say she’s where she deserves to be.”
“And if you ever wondered, Calli is a bad-arse just like my boys,” Gianna adds.
“I’m not sure about that,” Calli smiles. “But I appreciate it.”
“Don’t underestimate yourself. It takes one very strong girl to put up with Daemon.”
“He’s a teddy bear really.”
“There are a lot of people in this city who would argue with that.”
“Is there any news?” I ask. As much as I love finding out more about Alex and his life, right now, the present is more important.
“I haven’t heard anything. But if I do, you’ll be the first person I tell,” she says softly as more voices fill the air.
“Look out, trouble’s here.”
Not five seconds later do Emmie and Stella spill into the garden and immediately rush toward me.
“Evie, how are you feeling?” Emmie asks.
“Been better,” I say honestly. “Have you heard anything?”
“No, sorry. The guys were gone all night. Still haven’t seen or heard anything from them.”
“They’ve got to know something though, right?”
“Yeah, they should. We’re all tracked. Unless those who have Alex have blockers in place, they should know exactly where he is.”
It takes a few seconds for Emmie’s words to register.
“If they know, then they might already have them, right?”
