“Ah, so you’re the magical unicorn who’s got that buffoon wrapped around her little finger. I need some tips,” Isla says, immediately adopting me.

“Evie, don’t you dare tell her anything she can use against me,” Alex calls after us.

“Me?” I ask innocently. “As if I would.”

“Oooh, I like you already,” Isla says. “And don’t worry. He’s totally not as big a prick as I make him out to be. What’s so funny?” she asks when I just laugh at her confession.

“Nothing. It’s nothing.”

Her eyes narrow in suspicion.

“What has he told you about me?”

“Not much, actually, unless it’s details from the last party you all attended here.”

Her eyes widen so much I’m half expecting them to pop out and roll around at my feet.

She leans in. “He told you about that?”

“Yeah. I made him.”

“And you’re still standing here talking to me?”

“Why shouldn’t I? Were you looking for a repeat with him?”

“Hell no. I can’t even bear to look at him.”

“Sure.”

We both look back, finding Alex and Ant deep in conversation.

“Was it hot?” I ask, still beyond curious about the whole thing. Many women would probably be jealous standing here, talking to a woman who’s slept with her boyfriend fairly recently. But there’s no doubt in my mind about how Alex feels about me, and I don’t feel the slightest bit threatened. It’s a really good place to be after spending most of my life feeling like I don’t really belong.

“Oh hell, yeah. Just… don’t tell them that. Their egos are already big enough.”

A squeal rips through the room as Rhea darts around the back of the sofa. On the other side of it, Theo glares pure death at her. Not that she’s fazed.

“What did she do?” I ask.

“Knowing Rhea, it could be anything. She’s epic. I love her.”

I watch Emmie laugh at the two of them. “I don’t think you’re the only one.”

“Theo loves it really.”

“Not so sure about that.”

I gasp when a large pair of hands lands on my hips, but I soon relax when a set of lips brush down the side of my neck.

“You two had better not be comparing notes.”

Isla scoffs. “Hardly. I have nothing good to say.”

“You’re in a delightful mood tonight, Pest,” Alex points out, keeping all his attention on me. “What did we do to deserve your presence?”

“This might shock you, but I didn’t come here for you.”

“That means she’s here for me,” Ant teases, throwing his arm around her shoulder. “You missed me?”
